I like the food here, it's inexpensive and the staff are generally friendly. Today I sat inside for lunch at 1.50 and 20 minutes later no-one had taken my order. In fact, the whole time I was inside not a single order was taken. I went over to the counter and the waiter said, "I'll be with you in 2 seconds" then went on to serve 3 takeaway customers who had just walked through the door. I just left hungry. The staff today were completely stressed out and running around really inefficiently; manky tables piled high with used dishes. I think they need 3 people for the lunch service, it's too much for a single waiter to serve all of the tables that they have, help the chef and be the barista too. They'd make a lot more money if they cleared the tables quickly.
I'll go back but maybe choose to avoid lunchtime. Personally I hate sitting around waiting for an order...
Read moreI feel like the place is set up to scam people. We had a small pot of tea with two cups and a small jug of milk and a ‘‘pistachio croissant’’. It came to £12.89!! There’s no prices or drinks menu and when asked for a receipt we were told it could only be emailed but the tea was £3.95 for each cup and the croissant was £5.95. We are all for supporting small business and this price would be slightly more understandable for homemade pastries but there is really no justifiable reason to charge nearly £8 for one tea bag and a small amount of hot water. On top of this the pistachio croissant was just a croissant with a small pot of pistachio cream on the side. When Islington is full of amazing family businesses that charge less for really quality food and drink this just feels like taking advantage of people. Also...
Read moreService was nice and friendly. I want to support this cafe but unfortunately the the food was just ok, but not great considering the price. The "Full English" was not my idea of a Full English. It did not come with toast or, more forgivable, hash browns. No tea or coffee either. For Full English, toast, coffee and orange juice (so no hash browns) it was £20.70 - I can have a much better meal elsewhere (and in future will do so) for that, not what a greasy spoon is supposed to cost - average food for a way above average price.
If this was under £12 - which I think is plenty for full English including toast, hash brown and tea/coffee, it would have been 4-5 stars as that price covers the cost of the quality...
