Hope they can’t delete the comment here, as they did on instagram ☺️ Really awful customer service. My friends and I had an atrocious experience at this pub in Angel. The manager’s behaviour was just unacceptable; He kicked us out from a table on the basis that it was reserved, when it really wasn’t clear that it was a reserved table, (and if there was a reservation at all people were at least an hour late…); My friends and I had food and drinks on the table (!) and the manager rather aggressively approached me and my girl friends, he was shouting and at one point I dreaded being physically hurt. He even took my friend’s drink from his hands.

I have been living in London for years and I had never experienced such an outrageous behaviour. If there was a reservation, we would have understood but the bottom line is that we were customers too! Simply put: this was a really poor and disappointing customer service. It was particularly offensive to note that the people who claimed to have a reserved table were clearly friends with the pub’s manager who was aggressive towards us.

I had never witnessed or experienced such an abusive customer service in my entire life.

It goes without saying: we will absolutely never, ever go back to this dreadful place. Never thought I would have to spend time and energy writing something like this but I feel it is important for other customers to know that this pub has been an abusive, aggressive and quite frankly the worst night out experience I have...

There are 2 things that are the best about this place: the location, which is very close to the O2 Academy, so perfect for a pre - concert pint and the service! Unparalleled service for real: the people at the bar are nice, polite and smiley. The food comes quite quickly - you have to place your order at the bar and they'll bring it to you at your table.

They publish the list of craft beers every day on their site, which means they change the selections often. If you're into sort of light lagers, I recommend the Camden Hell Lager. They have plenty of IPAs if you prefer those.

It's in a residential area though, so bare this in mind when planning your night out as Earl of Essex may not stay open too late. Also, there is no drinks allowed outside after 10PM (for the same reason), but that also means that before 10PM you can take your drink out to the front, where there are a couple of tables and benches.

They have a quite sizeable beer garden at the back, with plenty of sitting space as well. The bathrooms are not huge but clean, and you reach them going down the stairs at the back. Wi Fi is...

This pub has been my local for two years and I have come here roughly twice a week.

The beer selection is unrivaled and constantly changing. The beer is obviously dealt with perfectly as everything always tastes fresh.

It is one big room with tables of all different sizes as well as seats at the bar with an great outside area with big tables open til 9. Everything is wooden. Everyone is always welcome to share the table with another group and the place is loud enough that you're never worried that someone is listening to your conversation.

The staff are generally super knowlegable about the beers, giving you tasters and recommendations (special shout out to Joel).

The food is good quality and they serve all the pub classics. I've eaten the burger, the roast, the bangers and mash and both of the sandwiches (cheap sausage and fish finger sandwiches available for those on a budget) and they're all good options.

The place definitely doesn't need any more patrons but I wanted to leave a review anyway and say that this is my favourite pub...

Food review only: if you’re looking for very average but highly priced food. This is the spot. Of course being a pub I don’t have unrealistic expectations of the food. However when my food came. I was genuinely speechless. I had a teriyaki salmon with broccoli, the salmon was dry and not fresh. Not to mention very very small. The spring onion garnish on top is clearly left over from the night before (unless it’s just been chilling on the kitchen counter for the past 10hrs). The broccoli was oven roasted, fine. This would have been okay with me apart from the fact that this cost £17. For a very small portion of food at below average quality I think you’ll be able to find much better options in the area.

I visited this place for roasts a month ago and was very happy with the food so came back with my friend from abroad and it’s her first sunday roast trying in the uk. My friend and I had a very high expectation for this occasion but were totally disappointed. We ordered beef roasts and the beef came out very dry/overcooked. Even the roast potatoes weren’t crispy enough. It didn’t taste like freshly made roasts from the kitchen. And clearly was not worth £21 for a dish. The inside of the pub still is lovely and the staff are nice but I won’t come back for food anymore. It was so disappointing.
