We had lunch at Sorrento today guided by the good reviews in Tripadvisor but we ended up quite disappointed as the food was not as we expected (not aligned with the reviews at all). We had 3 starters and 2 mains + one kid's menu + 1 bottle of white wine and a pint of Moretti. Starter 1: Avocado and prawns: Very simple dish, a sliced half avocado with a handfull of little defrosted shirmps (not prawns) and cocktail sauce. Starter 2: Stuffed Mushrooms: It was ok, the tomato sauce was tasty, but the dish was nothing exceptional, however it was way better than the rest of the food. Starter 3: Calamari (deep fried): it was tasteless and bland. Main 1: Seafood Risotto: This was very disappointing, it wasn't risotto but basmati rice with a light tomato sauce and a few mussels and clams on the top. A risotto is meant to be tasty and creamy but this was not the case. The risotto was completely tasteless. Main 2: Raviolli filled with asparagus and ricota cheese: plain flavour, similar to what you can get at the supermarket. Kids Menu: Chicken goujons with fries. The chicken was juicy and tasty, A bit overpriced considering the french fries were from frozen (£8.50). The white wine was nice. The pint of moretti was £6.50, a bit expensive. We finished all the food because we were really hungry but the dishes were very 'average'; (5 out of 10) but considering the money (almost £100) we spent I have to rate this restaurant with a 2 out of 5 because of the poor value. When I entered the restaurant I got the impression that it was going to be a fine dining experience but it was only that, an impression. We didn't have desserts or coffee. It is the first time that a 4.5 rated restaurant in Tripadvisor leaves me so disappointed. I have uploaded a picture of the bill. The service was correct and the atmosphere of the restaurant was nice. A shame the food was well below our expectations for a 'well-rated'; restaurant. I dont know what happened there. I was excited in the morning about the idea of discovering a nice local restaurant to become regular customers, but I dont think we will be coming back. I honestly think we could have had similar food from the ready-to-eat area of Tesco for a quarter of the money...
Read moreI have been going here for over 20 years since I was a young teen and it has been exceptional everytime. I have high standards when it comes to food, my fiance is even more so, and my dad... Don't get me started, he is the grumpiest man alive and could find fault in any thing, but this place. The homely atmosphere, the warmth and friendly staff, the smooth management, the attention to detail and one of the funniest waiters I have ever met, along with some very traditional Italian food makes for a fantastic meal for birthdays, celebrations, dates and more.
The food is not just well flavoured and seasoned to perfection, but it is not greasy or salty and it hearty and fresh, meat is never over cooked, and the extra vegetables for main course are almost good enough to be a dish on their own. The dessert trolley is clearly made fresh daily and I have eaten everything on it over the years and never been disappointed - they could give Laduree a run for their money!
This place DOES NOT skimp on portions. I am 6ft4 rugby build and their 3 course set menu kills me every time. Their prices are equivalent to London, but the food quality, the atmosphere and service is almost next to none. I have never come out of somewhere with such a massive grin on my face because of the waiters being cheeky and hilarious while being so polite, prompt and professional. This is a family restaurant in every sense of the word, and very Italian.
In conclusion, coming here is a wonderful experience of warm family feelings, mixed with quality fresh traditional Italian foods. If you don't leave with a smile I would be surprised. The atmosphere is relaxed so please don't expect super fast service and pin point timing, just enjoy the relaxed food, the nice atmosphere and the...
Read moreWORST MEAL IN A LONG TIME!! My family and I used to love this place, for both the food and the customer service, Unfortunately both have seriously declined! My partner and I went on a Friday night, it was not very busy but we were made to wait over 20 minutes to be asked if we would like to order. This was after we asked one waiter (who seemed to be doing everything while the others stood behind the bar) if we could order to which we were told " the boss lady will sort it". Our drinks did not take quite as long however the were completely flat and incorrect. The bread that came later was rock solid and then left on our very small table to take up more room, again i have to say the service was beyond disappointing. We went straight for the main, we ordered Veal which looked and tasted like cardboard wrapped in a soggy chicken nugget that had been overly microwaved, along side tomato spaghetti which taste like it had come straight from a tin and in to the microwave again! My partners steak was cold and and the chips were drenched in grease. The pictures we took actually make the food look better so don't be fooled. We asked for the bill and wanted to leave which is when the manager or 'boss lady' came over and asked what I expected the veal to be like, she was very passive aggressive and more annoyed that I didn't like the food rather than focusing on delivering a great service/ experience. We felt very uncomfortable and left immediately! The manager took the veal off the bill however I must say the whole experience was a mess from start to finish. I will never go back here again! Such a shame but the food was gross, the pictures actually make the food looks...
