On 21st April 2022, my husband emailed Ryanâs N16 to book a table for 10 on Saturday 28th May, to celebrate his birthday and watch the Championâs League final.
On 24th May, he emailed Ryanâs N16 again to ask if we could add 5 more people to the booking. A staff member named Rob replied saying they may struggle to to hold the table because of the Champs league. My husband asked if this means the booking is not going to be honoured, because if that was the case then we would make other arrangements. A different staff member, Wiola, emailed this:
âThere are some tables booked for you, don't worry. I will add one more extra table for you . Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday !â
We arrived at our booking on time to find that not only were there no tables reserved for us, the staff seemed somehow shocked by our presence. Someone managed to pull an extra table which could fit 4 people - but we were 15. We had to be split up across three different tables at different areas of the bar, so we couldnât enjoy each otherâs company. And itâs not like we could go anywhere else, because it was a Saturday night and the Championâs League final, and everywhere else was also full.
I understand that football matches draw big crowds. But if you knew that it wouldnât be possible to honour the booking, why did your staff explicitly confirm it not once, but twice?
If you had told us that you wouldnât have been able to hold the tables for us during our initial email conversation, we would have gone somewhere else. If you had asked us to pay a deposit to secure the booking, we would have done that. If you had just been honest, or at least base-level competent, you wouldnât have ruined someoneâs birthday.
I realise that you probably wonât have to deal with any real consequences. You probably made a killing last night, and thatâs all that matters, I get it.
But I hope that someone reads this review and avoids disappointment by going somewhere else. And I hope that the staff involved feel guilty that they ruined what was meant to be a special night for a really...

Ryanâs Bar is located opposite the Town Hall on Church Street in Stoke Newington. The nearest station is Stoke Newington overground, Manor Park is closest Tube.
This pub is housed in a Grade II listed Victorian building that was once a drapers shop. This is an independent pub that had been owned and run by the same family for nearly thirty years.
This is a traditionally decorated pub that has some stylish contemporary touches. There is plenty of seating throughout including some long comfy banquettes. Around the walls are some mirrors, retro beer signage and large TV screens to watch sport. Downstairs is an atmospheric function room that has an âold pubâ charm about it. At the back of the pub is a huge well presented beer garden which is partially covered and has four large screens. At the rear of the garden is a garden lounge complete with fussball table.
The beer selection was all keg with a choice of mainstream beers and London based brews. I decided on a pint of Madri, my pint hit the spot and pleasingly cost less than six quid. The food offering is @yardsalepizza ,you order using a QR code and your pizza gets delivered to the pub, a Margherita costs a tenner.
I arrived at 12pm on a warm Saturday lunchtime in June. Soon after I arrived the pub started filling up with a few punters with their pooches plus a few lads from a local footy team. The atmosphere was chilled and relaxed with a nice local pub feel. The service was fantastic, I received a warm welcome from one of the team who was chatty and all smiles.
The pub hosts Jazz on Wednesdayâs and Comedy on Thursdayâs. This pub is big on sports and shows all live sports channels.
Visiting @ryansn16bar was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I loved the location on vibrant Church Street and the warm welcome by the upbeat team. There was a lovely local feel about the pub which made settling in easy. The big bonus here is the superb beer garden with screens which will appeal to all sports fans. Itâs a Yes from me.

Read moreMy husband and I had our wedding after party at Ryanâs on Saturday 25 May. We originally discussed and booked the private basement with Dana. I emailed and spoke to a few managers at Ryanâs Bar over the year about reserving additional space and having food. We were told we would need to pay an additional ÂŁ150 to have food which we hadnât budgeted for but agreed to pay. It seemed like our agreements/conversations were not noted/passed on to new managers. On the night, we were told we didnât need to pay the additional ÂŁ150 as the bar had a âdealâ with Yard Sale Pizza who we had ordered food from but no plates or napkins were provided as discussed. The additional space in the garden wasnât enough for our guests and we needed to wait for people to leave to get more tables. The basement was really musty and luckily we got there a little earlier to open the doors to air the place out. Another problem was that people from the bar were walking in and out of the basement to access the toilets and some were even down there dancing when there was a sign about it being a private party! The bar also wasnât stocked well as we couldnât get a diet/zero Coke and our guests had to queue upstairs for 20 minutes plus to get drinks, which isnât ideal as we had paid for a private bar downstairs! I didnât use the toilets but some guests said that they were dirty, smelly and the floors were soaking wet! We wouldnât use Ryans Bar again but it is a very good price for a function room in...
