From outstanding Gob Aloo to magic towels.

My friends and I went to Shampan Bromley for the first time Friday evening. The restaurant looked very nice and the staff were very friendly, we got the sense that we were in for a good experience immediately.

Sat at a nice round table with booth seating featuring more cushions than you’d expect in a boutique hotel, we settled in for the evening.

The poppadams were excellent, great crunch but they didn’t splinter too much. One of my friends was on his fourth before we could blink. The test of an good Indian is the mint sauce which was buttery and rich and very pleasant indeed.

The menu was extensive and had all the old favourites. My friend ordered the Gob Aloo which the waiter grinned at, knowing it’s their house specialty and we knew we were in for a treat. The waiter told all the other staff that we’d ordered the Gob Aloo and the excitement as word got around the restaurant was palpable.

The mains come and my friend commented that the food was fantastic as he dug into his beautifully moist and succulent Paneer Tikka which he could find no fault with.

Then it came. The famous Gob Aloo. I’ll say no more and implore you to go yourself and experience this outstanding dish.

Full up, happy and doused in our second Cobras of the evening we asked for the bill (extremely reasonable for the quality). The waiter brought over a small plate with little white tablets dotted on it. We looked quizzically, do we eat these? The waiter then dripped hot water over the tablets and like a moist, warm lemony Phoenix our hot towels grew from no where, ready to refresh our curry filled faces. The final act to a splendid play.

Overall a great evening and memorable experience. A round of complimentary limoncellos at the bill would have catapulted our enjoyment to the stratosphere but this would...

If possible I could give zero star. We ate here on a Friday evening. We arrived on time for our booking and waited inside to be seated. There was a staff member outside smoking who opened the door to ask if we had been seen to but this meant smoke drifted inside the restaurant which I found very unpleasant and must have been even more so for people dining at the time. I don't mind waiting for a table but there was no waiting area and more people came inside and it felt very cramped. The atmosphere seemed very chaotic - tables were being set up where there was no space for them, customers were being moved between tables and the waiter or probably owner were shouting at each other from across the room. We were eventually seated downstairs and the table next to us was so close, it felt like we were dining at a table for 4 with 2 strangers. After our drinks had arrived the staff asked if we could move tables to accommodate a table of 4. It felt like musical chairs. I could also smell smoke where we were sat and there was a draft so it may have been coming through the front door. Given how busy it was the wait for food wasn't too bad and when it arrived my partner and I agreed we both likely enjoy it. The staff did not apologise at the end for us having to move tables. Food was just ok but based on the overall experience it's...

On mothers day we booked a table for 4,upon arriving we were directed to a table in the corner,we later asked for a change of table this was given. Our bill was nearly £90 in total, while we were there all mothers were given a bunch of roses, and kids given a cup cake,I must state we are of Caribbean descent, we asked for our bill they gave it to us,my daughter is 5yrs she said mom can i have some of the cup cake that the man was giving away,I told her to ask the waiter,it took 11 minutes for him to give it to her.My sons mother inlaw said it appears we not getting any roses,so i walked up to the waiter and asked him where is our roses,he spoke to the manager in their language,he replied and said its finished and calmly walked away. we sat in our car and the lady that was sitting behind us came out with a bunch of roses,My son went back and said I thought you said that it was finished,he said that's the only one that was left. we then left, the Monday I called and made a verbal complain, the area manager took my telephone number to date I have not received a call. sadly the Monday my son ended up in hospital with diarrhoea and vomiting. I told them they never care less, I will never ever go to a next Asian...

My wife and I called in one evening by chance after many months away due to the lock down. It wasn't that busy being mid week so it was cosy and intimate . We both had a lamb dish that was amazing and some rice. The service was attentive but not obtrusive from a buzzy friendly waiter that made you feel at ease and at home ready for your meal. Prices compare more or less to other fine dining restaurants. It can get busy weekends apparently . Yes I highly recommend it, go you won't be disappointed

Delicious food served by a friendly staff (we were led by Shahin). My son enjoyed an excellent butter chicken and my mother some delicious tofu. I had the seared haddock, which could quite easily have been the perfect dish. A point off for some very old, dry fish at the centre of an otherwise perfectly balanced plate. We’ll be back for sure - The Shampan has been a bit of a tradition since my own childhood, and has maintained its place in the area as a restaurant worth taking the time to visit.

I’ve been going to this restaurant for many years with friends and family. The food is absolutely delicious and the staff are very friendly. I have also had the pleasure of arranging family events and parties with this restaurant as they have plenty of space downstairs. I highly recommend this restaurant for all types of occasions. You won’t find a better restaurant than Shampaan. Absolutely fantastic. 👍🏽🍛😉
