Absolutely disgusted, me and a group of friends went here to enjoy a catch up and drink, the night was going fine until we were approached on more than one occasion by a drunken man acting intimidating and clearly needed to go home however was believed to be the son of the landlord. First by making a snide comment whilst walking past my gay friend, another when he butted into mine and my other friends conversation . We were approached by the land lord before and was asked if we knew were the smell of marijuana was coming from and we simply explained that we didn’t have a clue and he could clearly see the smell wasn’t coming from us so we carried on enjoying the night. About 15 minutes later we were approached by the same man who had already caused bother in the night blocking the door way into the pub asking us again what the smell was, it was clear he had a lot to drink so we just all politely said ONCE again that we don’t know and that we don’t know, he continued to block the door way and kept repeatedly accusing us of smoking marijuana/ blocking our way in and getting in my friend face acting very intimidating at this point. Frustrated by the fact that all we did was wanted to come out and have a good night but had multiple issues with this man that we tried to kindly let slide due to him being drunk my friend asked him what his problem was and we tried to explain to the bar staff what had happened. In the end we were told to grow up and to leave the premises whilst nothing was done or said about the man and his behaviour. Baring in mind he had bothered us half the night things did get heated due to the fact the bar staff didn’t want to hear any of it and the general frustration that this man had been bothering us half the night and we finally spoke up about it. Absolutely awful experience, land lord of the son or not people over their limit should be escorted out kept an eye on. This wasn’t the case, whilst WE were escorted out and told to grow up he was still quite happily drinking his pint. We’re in two minds to contact the police at this stage 1 for his homophobic comment and 2 for trying to intimidate us 2 of us being women but yet we were in the wrong and he was still allowed to stay drinking probably waiting to target the next group of young people that walk through the...
Read moreA boozer, and a friendly one at that; the pub is very much populated by locals - mainly men of all ages, however they aren't intimidating or cliquey and are very welcoming. If you have an issue with a pub full of men and don't like the traditional idea of a pub, i.e. one where friends can meet, socialise, catch up and drink beer while watching football on the TV, then maybe you need to find one of the many gastro pubs to satisfy your needs.
The pub welcomes children (usually in the rear room which is large and has a pool table as the main bar can be quite busy) and they have an impressive garden with swings, slides and plenty of grass. the garden is a bit of a sun trap. During the suimmer there are various events in the garden.
The beer is no frills straight up normal lagers, I like an American craft beer or a meantime but this is a pub and the main thing is the beer is fresh, the pumps are clean and the pints are nice - what more can you ask - thsis is Bromley not Hoxton.
The Chat doesn't serve food but the landlord is a generous chap and allows you to bring your own food in, which is nice - especially for the kids.
All in all a no frills pub that is well populated, serves decent beer, is trouble free and has sports and a lovely garden. One of the best pubs in Bromley (if you like pubs and not the modern incarnation of pubs we have forced down our...
Read moreA pub that never ever gets above average, currently the new management are particularly clicky, bar staff are almost appalling in there lack of any apparent customer care training, they actually just stare at you like there doing you a favour by being there. Only one regular bar staff girl has any manners at all, she is totally lost amongst the could care less other’s. Drug dealings in the mens toilet has returned, with a particular well known dealer suddenly reappearing on the scene unchanged. Honestly been using the Chatterton for 18 years and it’s never been this bad. On another note the selection of beers rearly sums up this pub chains attitude to British pubs and there customers. Travel just 1.3 miles to chiselhurst and see what a real pub with polite staff looks like. Eternally distressed by...
