Very much a 'hipster' bar, based on the decor, drinks and food.
It's typical London alcohol prices and food prices, you won't get change from a fiver for a pint, and a burger and chips will be £7+. Food quality is overall good the few times I've eaten here.
The bar is approximately 5-10 minutes walk from Sutton train station and is located next to the band stand and opposite Wilko's. Ideally located to drop the husband off while you shop and join him later for a cocktail or beer and grab a bite to eat!
There's a good amount of seating on the high street directly outside the front, and a decent amount of seating inside so you'll probably be able to get a seat even if you have to do inside. I'd advise booking a table for larger parties or if you want a seat outside even it's busy and the weather is nice.
Shiner + Sudtone has a limited selection of ales on draught that I believe rotate every few months, and always includes locally brewed beers which is good. There's also a small selection of chilled beers which is much appreciated in the heat.
I like to visit every now and again as it's a bit less claustrophobic then the Spoons and more mature crowd.
The bar also has a good selection of board games for those who want a cosy game and drink with friends away from...
Read moreIf I was just evaluating the food I'd give this place 4 stars. Went on Sunday for the Sunday roast and the food was very good. Sadly I have to deduct some stars because of the service, which was less than stellar. The pub was practically empty when I was there (around 1pm), yet my partner and I were made to sit by a tiny table by the front door on stools. From what I understand we were asked to sit there because we hadn't made a reservation, but I don't see why it makes a difference when pretty much all the tables were empty the whole time we were there. So, please, don't ask people to sit on stools when they're having lunch if you have empty tables all around. It soon becomes very uncomfortable. Not only this, but we were asked to pay when our drinks were brought out , well before the food arrived to our table. I don't know if this is standard practice in this pub, but I've never seen it done anywhere else. Suffice to say I found it very odd. Also there was a very long wait for our food to come out, of which there was no acknowledgement. A simple "your food is taking a bit long, but will be out soon" wouldn't have gone amiss. Like I said, even though the food was nice, the service was severely lacking. Won't be...
Read moreReally disappointed with the food. We went on a Sunday, it wasn't too busy and only a half hour wait until on the food. We got the roasts. They arrived barely warm. The potatoes that was under the meat were very cold. The plates were also cold. We asked if they could be sent back and staff took them away and said they would 'put them under the grill and replate them'. They came back several minutes later on a warm plate but as they had been under the grill only the top layer of the food was warm. Unfortunately the potatoes and veg were under the layer of meat so we're still cold. My partner was starving so ate half of his. I ate some of the top layer and left most of it. When the same person collected our mostly still full of food plates he never asked if the food was ok or if it was warm etc. Yes we could have complained again but we really didn't see the point by this time and have decided we just won't eat here again. You would think for a basic £12 roast dinner it would at least be hot food. Also I ordered 2 cokes and got 2 Pepsi Max handed to me! That's...
