Eat at your peril....
80th birthday party of 20 with unplanned surprises did not go quite to plan.
Firstly the positives: wide range of food, friendly waitressing staff, appears to be popular, good sized portions and food of good quality on the whole.
Now the serious negatives: picture fell off wall and hit my mother and more seriously, after repeatidly checking with staff about an egg alergy, miscommunication between staff resulted in my wife being served ice cream with egg in it and her spending the rest of trip in the loo being very sick. Staff apologised but serious management concerns.
Pictures on the wall for 20 yrs or so and bluetack there to stop them wobbling apparently, according to the Manager, who was not overly concerned the fitting failed and hit a customer. He did not even speak to my mum or apologise to her personally and I purposely spoke to him away from other customers to be as discrete as possible.
Secondly and more seriously... My wife is badly alergic to egg which was made clear and we checked every food course with them. When it came to the pudding we got them to double check the ice cream sorbet had no egg in it as it sometimes does. The ice cream came and we asked again and was advised it was fine. One spoonful later, her lips and tonge were bumpy and felt sick. I asked again and they checked and confirmed egg.
Demanded to see the Manager again and whilst waiting, asked staff if they had a first aider and they were unaware of one.
The manager then arrived and tried to give my wife an alergy tablet until I stopped him. As a qualified first aider I know you are not allowed to give any medication unless it's prescribed to the individual or advised by a paramedic to do so. No questions were even asked as to other medication or alergies so good job i was there to stop him. Apparently he was a first aider so should probably advise all his staff he is one and update his training.
Again I discussed this away from other customers whilst my wife was now being violently sick in the toilets. I brought up the earlier health and safety issue with the picture as this added to the there failings and was asked not to keep going on about it. When I said you did not even bother to apoligise just went on about there being no blood, they been up for 20 years and things happen. I had to ask to stop being touched. At this point I got feedback that my mother-in-law, who's party it was, was getting upset so I backed down when he said he was going to sort it. He disagreed the whole party had been spoilt as the rest had been okay and asked staff to clear the tables.
Appeared to take the alergy complaint quite seriously to start with but then disappeared and did not come back to see how she was later or personally apologise directly to her.
On talking to staff they do apparently have an alergy menu but as the chefs vary the menu, also like to check. Recipy for disaster and probably against regulations if they don't stick to what has been declared for the alergins and the recent regulations on this.
Nothing was recorded in their accident book despite the attempt to issue a tablet.
A gesture of good will was made with a discount so at least this was appropriate.
Shame as food was good but doubt we will wish...

We ordered from, a very broad, set menu and the food was flawless. At first I thought the servings looked a bit small, but I'm a glutton and by the end of the evening was comfortably full. The food was well cooked, served beautifully and tasted superb. Service was very friendly, very personable and quick. Waiting staff made sure to check in regularly but not overstay their welcome. The waitress we had was very informative and helpful with suggestions for wine and was a credit to the restaurant.
Had such a good time that when we came to leave we suddenly noticed we were the only people in there and they had closed up around us. When we arrived the restaurant was packed and understandably so.
Very much...
Read moreI was thinking about the last time I talked my mother just to say something nice, just because. We're used to asking for advice, calling for support or wishing her a happy birthday. But our mums deserve more than that. So today me and Pauline surprise her, by taking her to lunch, on a Beautiful sunny crisp day. I try make sure she knows just how much I love and appreciate her for being the glue that holds it all together. We had a wonderful lunch at Sophie’s choice. The service is so friendly and they can't do enough for us. The food is delicious and very reasonably priced. There is a vast menu with large portions. The tables are generally round and all have white table clothes. I cant say enough about how good it is. But thank you 🙏 to my mum, Pauline and Sophie’s choice for making my...
