As one of the best bakeries in London, I had to try them out.

Pride June special Ube cruffin.

Sourdough Sophia is a notable bakery so best to get there early to avoid disappointment. The purple creme cruffin was unsuspectingly ube as it was not labelled and I am so glad I got it as it is only available for June. It is interesting they had an Asian flavour amongst the range. The ube isn't strong or starchy but it was like silky fresh cream. The texture of the cruffin was so soft and flakey with so many distinct layers. Albeit the ube being too sweet it was well filled. Overall, definitely recommended.

Smoked trout with herby schmear on sourdough. Sourdough Sophia is a notable bakery so best to get there early to avoid disappointment. You can also pre order but I felt that the smoked trout is not worth pre ordering as the ones ready to go are better which I got exchanged because the colour of the trout I got was dull and not as vibrant as the ones at the counter. The smoked trout was delicious especially if you like dill and pickled onions. Paid 8.50

My expectations were as inflated as an airport welcome home balloon. Im not that balloon 5 days later, but it wasn't all celebration. The sandwich bread hasn't got the expected crust development..you know, that sourdough chew that makes you see yourself as a camel gif. The crumb had good flavour, but for this use, this bread needs to be about a third thinner. I get the need to impress with a cinder block of cheese. I feel that the effect and texture would work better with shards. But I know that's not ploughman's. But the block smothers the beautifully small dice celery, banishing it to the distant background. The whole thing is recognisable as quality, but it can't satisfy in these proportions. The pastry of the pumpkin pie is first rate, beautifully rendered. I get that they want to dry the veg filling to avoid soggyness. I think the only solution is a teaspoon if olive oil in the veg mix. It just eats like its been in a salad spinner, which it likely has, for good reason. I've just deleted 1400 words of technical suggestions. These guys can bake, for sure.
