Always a great pub to go and have a beer in if you've had a bad day. Staff are almost ALL smiley and happy (with exception of a few new taller recruits the last couple of months who look like someone just pissed directly in their chips), the manager is a delight and the owner is always around having a word.
Food's not quite the same as they have a new-ish chef (i say new, probably a year or more in now), but the fare's gone from good old pub food to a bit more 'what on earth is that' occasionally.
Still, the layout is second to none, the crowd is usually pretty sedate unless it's footy on, and it is quite honestly stars ahead of anything in the area. Old queen's head up the road is fine if you want to rub shoulders with hipster bell ends or spin the wheel of death with mardy door-people of a weekend (along with queues, for some reason. the music upstairs is STELLAR sometimes, but seriously? queueing?), but if you want a decent bottle of something interesting and a sit-down in a pub not overrun with dirty old men, barflies or single blokes with glowface, the Rose is without a...

I’ve never felt so disrespected and humiliated at the door of a venue in my life. The security staff—particularly one individual—was rude, aggressive, and completely unprofessional. No explanation, no courtesy, just a smug dismissal with zero justification. I was sober, well-dressed, and polite, yet treated like a criminal.

If this is the kind of person the pub entrusts with its front line, it speaks volumes about their standards. I watched him antagonize other guests too—clearly not an isolated incident.
Management needs to take a hard look at who they’re hiring. This kind of behavior drives away good customers and damages the reputation of the entire establishment. I won’t be returning, and I’ll be warning others to steer clear until they...
Read moreI've visited the alpaca twice now, once for a roast in August and this weekend for large group booking.
The roast was excellent, I am usually dubious of any pub roasts but this was excellent!! Every element was cooked well. The starters and desserts were also very good. We sat in the courtyard and we really appreciated Lola who served us who we got on really well with.
I booked again for this weekend for a group of friends to have drinks and some food. From when we arrived till left everyone who worked there was fantastic. We had some nice chats with a few of them when it was quieter and they very really attentive throughout. The food was again excellent, everyone enjoyed their food who got any. We got the fish and chips and it was the best curry sauce I've ever had!! My partner also said the pardon peppers were best he ever had too.
Thank you to...
