Tamnag Thai used to be very good, but a lot has changed. Gone are the colourful parasols and lively atmosphere. Replaced with dull flat lighting, mushroom coloured walls, very cold toilets and hard seats that make an evening out a pain. Service was slow throughout the evening. The best part of the meal were the starters. The sharing platter was good and we enjoyed the satay chicken, prawn toasts, Thai fish cakes, chicken wings although they weren't hot that is just as well. The spring rolls did not impress our daughter but were ok. The corn cakes were nice to but all starters were probably made elsewhere and reheated. Although it was in date the Chang beer spelt 'change' on their menu tasted odd . We suspect it had been opened some hours earlier. I found a case of it in the shed BB 2022 and one of my bottles this evening was fine, confirmed my suspicions. My wife ordered Pad Thai. Her first complaint was the chicken was rubbery. She asked me to try it and there was a lack of ingredients and lack of taste. Too sweet, missing bite and heat so too much sugar too little sriracha, tamarind, lime, bean sprouts and no noticeable egg, not much coriander either. The coconut rice with my main was delicious but the Massaman curry also suffered from chewy beef, and was disappointing with too few peanuts and hard potatoes. We suspect that the meat was not cooked on the day and may have been reheated several times to achieve the rubbery texture. We had to get up, put on our coats and stand for several minutes at the till before anyone noticed and the bill for this ordeal £95 - my advice is to...
Read moreWent here for my husband’s birthday dinner and regret it so much. I’ve never been treated so poorly in a restaurant before. We ordered our food at just before 8pm. We received our starters fairly promptly, but then waited for an hour before finally complaining to a manager about the delay. She said she would push our food to the front of the queue, inferring it hadn’t even been started being prepared yet. When we finally got the food my prawn, scallops and asparagus dish was cold and the waiter couldn’t even be bothered to light my in laws’ Volcano Chicken on fire as it’s meant to be. We then waited close to another hour for the bill. When it came all of the food was included without even so much as a minor discount for the inconvenience, but in addition they had the gall to add a service charge. Hilarious considering we had to chase our food and drinks the whole night! We then complained to a waitress and asked to speak to the manager. We were told the manager would not come and speak to us. When the waitress came back with a new bill the service charge had been removed, but that was it. No apology, no conversation with the manager about our treatment, nothing. A full priced bill for the worst dining experience I can recall in recent memory. When we walked out a couple walking by said to each other “I wonder if the food’s any good.” And we emphatically told them to never go there, as we will do with all our neighbors and friends who have dined there in the past. My in laws really hyped this place up, but we now know it has changed management and it shows. We will never go...
Read moreA bit of a curate's egg to be honest. The food is pretty good but expensive for what it is. Starters were standard but the mains were better - the Tom Yam soup was the best course. A couple of things really let the place down. I know it is trivial but all the menus were dog eared and really tatty - it's off putting. They serve one beer in two sizes. OK it is a Thai beer but with the amount of local breweries and the huge variety of beer available nearby there is no excuse for not offering up some decent beers to pair with the food. Limited selection of spirits as well. Plenty of wine and cocktails were available but they were not cheap either. Lastly their was an absolute refusal to compromise on the set menus. We had one guy who had a seafood allergy and we all wanted to go for the set menu but it has a prawn dish and the Tom Yam also had prawns.. We asked if they could sub something in - even something of less value but this was just met with a no. Not even an apologetic one at that - just an outright refusal. Service was friendly enough otherwise but they missed a couple of drink and we had to re-order. I wont be in a...
