We had to wait quite a while to actually sit down despite pre booking as the lady had not realised we were there. So wasn’t a great start.
So in terms of food; starters are really good Especially the prawn toast. I would say my main was not great it was a Thai green curry. Normally these are very mild and whilst I enjoy spicy food it wasn’t what I was going for. This was incredibly spicy and not very nice as the spice overpowered everything. Should be more clear in the description that it isn’t a cocounty dish. Also the curries don’t come with rice which is an additional £3 and not very nice either. Definitely wish I got another dish.
Whilst I was ordering I asked the lady quite a lot of questions and she found them really hard to answer and really didn’t understand me. So I think communication needs some improvement.
I asked about the fact that it said cash only on the menu and we hadn’t brought cash. She said it was cash only so we went to take out cash. However she said to another table that it wasn’t cash only and ended up having a card machine, which was very bizzare.
I asked about the corkage charge and was told it was a charge for literally corking the bottle etc. so we bought a bottle and opened it ourselves however we were charged for this on the receipt.
Overall I was disappointed in service and there was quite a lot of extra charges and the issue of cash which let the restaurant down. The food is of very good quality but the difficultly of communication and lack of clear guidance was not great.
There was also quite a high service charge, which after all the communication issues I didn’t really want to pay. However that is extremely rude so I didn’t ask to take it off. Like I said, the food is of high quality and the restaurant isn’t bad there just needs to be more consistent regulations and...
Read moreI called before ordering to ask if they could make a green curry NOT spicy and was told emphatically that yes, that would be fine if I left the instructions on Deliveroo. The curry arrives... spicy (around 6/10). This is what happens when I call back:
He tells me I didn't put instructions on delivery (I definitely did).
He says there's nothing he can do about chilli being in the paste. Fair enough, but that's why I called in the first place to find out if the dish could be made without the chilli/spice.
He tells me "how am I supposed to know if you're going to find the food spicy". Surely if you know there is chilli in the ingredients, it's probably going to be spicy!
He says he can't do anything about it. I ask if he can send something not spicy, like Pad Thai. He says no because he has no drivers (I live 3 mins bike ride away).
At no point was any apology offered. In fact, he made out it was my fault for finding the food spicier than he does. To be fair, the food was actually quite tasty and I probably would have given a 3 star rating, but the attitude, lack of communication and poor customer service left a sour (and spicy) taste...
Read moreThis has been here almost as long as we’ve been in East Dulwich and now offers online booking so we finally got here.
Starters range from £5-£8 and mains from £12-£18. It’s BYOB with a corkage charge or tea and soft drinks are on the menu. Tea was a reasonable £2 a pot, a small bottle of water - chilled and with ice £3 so more spent on drinks than expected in the warm weather.
Service was friendly and the whole feel of the place was a café not a restaurant - that’s no surprise as it’s what it is. Food was ok but nothing special for us. Spring rolls were crispy and the filling hot (temperature) with a slight chilli kick. We prefer a more stew like Massaman curry. The menu was large and all the food was well cooked. If we return we’ll try some of their stir fried dishes - given the limitations of the kitchen these might be a better option.
