🚇 Vauxhall 🍺 £6.20 Estrella ❤️ An upbeat Gastro set in an tranquil backstreet in Vauxhall. . The Black Dog is located in a peaceful backstreet opposite Vauxhall pleasure gardens. Getting here is easy with Vauxhall station just a five minute walk away. . This pub started life as a mineral water factory back in 1860. More recently, the pub went under renovation back in 2010 and is now a popular destination for quality beer and food. . The decor is simple with some standout touches throughout. The back bar area has a beautiful fan detail on it and the copper pendants add a contemporary edge to this traditional pub. . The beer choice is a combination of craft and mainstream beers, there are three cask options available for the real ale drinkers. Today’s tipple was a pint of Estrella, it was an enjoyable pint and just over average price. The food menu is full of pub classics and some Mediterranean inspired dishes, fish & chips costs £14 and roasts are available on a Sunday. . I visited mid afternoon on a Saturday and the place was packed inside and out. The atmosphere here was great and there was a real buzz all around. The service was good, even though the team behind the bar were very busy I didn’t have to wait long to be served. . The @theblackdogvauxhall is an excellent Gastro set in peaceful surroundings and is an enjoyable place to spend to time in. The beer choice was good and the food is clearly a hit with the punters, I must come back and try the Barnsley chop. . ℹ️ Information correct on visiting 24/09/22

I went here approximately 4pm on Sunday and oh boy was it impressive. The pub was vibrant and packed. It is a cosy pub with not that many tables inside so I would recommend booking to avoid sitting outside. The atmosphere was buzzing and it was very busy. I waited about 10 minutes to get a table inside with dining solo. There was many people dining outside as they did not book. I ordered a whiskey sour which was whiskey and bitters, it was a bit different to the whiskey sour I am used to in Australia where they do the egg white foam on top. It was still a nice cocktail to accompany my meal. I ordered the Sunday Roast Pork and oh boy was it a huge meal. I could not finish it all, and I would of taken it away if I was not flying to Singapore that night. It was a delicious meal and the only thing I was not a huge fan of was I believe it was either a parsnip or turnip in the vegetable mix. Everything else in the dish was great and there was nothing wrong with the turnip just it was not to my taste. The service was quick and I had my meal within 10 minutes of ordering. I was impressed by the meal, service and just overall the pub was a good atmosphere.

I’ve worked nearby for years and never visited. On a Tuesday lunchtime I found myself nearby and decided to try it out, I can only say that I wish I had done earlier. The atmosphere is lovely, the high ceilings and open layout feels welcoming and spacious, and the staff were all lovely and friendly and helpful. I decided to get some lunch and opted for the harissa roasted cauliflower and pomegranate salad. I was expecting something fairly mediocre as per usual pub food, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. Not only was I not expecting a whole cauliflower but the presentation was beautiful, and most importantly it tasted absolutely incredible. Cauliflower doesn’t usually get me excited, but the mix of flavours was just pure genius. I’m a bit of a miser and begrudge spending £16 on lunch, but this was absolutely worth every penny. I literally wanted to be introduced to the chef to see what incredible person put this together. Oh and they have Henry Westons cider on draught which is always a bonus.

We had a party of 5, total, for lunch. My son and I arrived before our friends got there. We waited to be greeted but no hostess in sight. A lovely bartender asked us if he could help, I told him we were waiting for our friends, he said to please grab a table (literally half of the tables were empty) so we took a 5-seat table. A server came to our table and brought us water. Our friends arrived a min later, and the hostess (manager?) came over and RUDELY and coldly asked us how we got the table. I explained. She asked, again, RUDELY if we were planning to have food. We said yes. I was completely embarrassed in front of my friends who were in town visiting us. The hostess asked if we had any allergies. My friend said, "I have a tree nut allergy, but only if ingested." This has NEVER been an issue at any restaurant they'd been to in the week they'd been visiting. The hostess asked, "Is it severe?" My friend said, "What do you mean by severe?" The hostess could not explain, and then RUDELY, and COLDLY told us she could not serve us food and walked away without giving us (even the kids) menus. I saw her go and reprimand the LOVELY bartender. We ordered drinks. I approached the hostess and said I wasn't sure if we got off on the wrong foot with how we obtained the table, etc. She changed her attitude immediately but a bit condescendingly. I said we wanted to order food, as we clearly had two children with us. She brought menus to all of us except my friend. I felt awful. We had not experienced this kind of treatment in any kind/caliber restaurant before, anywhere. The drinks and the kids food and the fries were delicious, however, so compliments to the cooks. The bartenders were again, LOVELY. Even if we lied about the allergy, the hostess (I hope not manager) was already beyond nasty, and it's clear by other reviews she's like this all the time, and shouldn't really work...

Was so excited when a friend made a reservation for my birthday here. We were greeted by a nice guy who warmly welcomed us.

Then the experience changed to the worst… a woman manager came out of nowhere demanding whether we would order or not. We had already ordered a round of drinks and had already told the waitress twice we would be ordering when another friend arrived. Our friend arrived and we ordered. I asked to keep a menu (for the drinks to order more later) and the waitress accused me of trying to steal it. I said I wanted the drink menu for later…

Later on, I asked the woman manager for another beer and she got annoyed and rolled her eyes. Two people ended up bringing that one beer I ordered, and she yelled at me and accused me of ordering a beer with two different people. I did not and had only ordered from her. This manager kept turning around and giving us a look to leave. I’ve never gotten an evil eye for having dinner before.

The waitress tried to take my food twice before I was done. It was clear they were trying to get people in and out. The woman manager was so rude and treated us like cattle. I have never been treated like that. Usually establishments want you to order more and enjoy yourself. We had had a reservation for over a month for this special evening. It was very disappointing.

The food was pretty good, but I just wish I could have enjoyed it and my second beer I had to chug. I understand this pub has grown in popularity and they want as many customers as possible, but no one should be treated like this. Especially having a reservation. I hope this is brought to managements attention and no one else is treated like this. Many people were so...
