The Brunel pub in Rotherhithe stands as a charming testament to British pub culture, its roots dating back to 1913 when it was crafted for the Wenlock Brewery of Shoreditch. Originally named Adam and Eve, the pub underwent a thoughtful transformation in 2015, emerging as the welcoming Brunel. Following a subsequent refurbishment in 2017, the revival of real ale added a classic touch to the venue.
The indoor ambiance exudes coziness, embodying the essence of a classical British pub. One standout feature is the rustic and colorful garden tucked behind the pub—a perfect retreat for enjoying chilled drinks during the summer months.
While the Brunel doesn't prepare or serve food, it accommodates patrons by allowing them to order deliveries for consumption within the premises (keep in mind to order cutlery as the pub doesn't have any to offer) . A brief venture into offering pizza was curtailed due to licensing constraints stemming from the absence of a fully equipped kitchen.
For sports enthusiasts, the pub transforms into a lively haven, making it a go-to spot for watching events. Whether relishing the historical charm, sipping on real ale, or enjoying the vibrant garden, the Brunel pub promises a delightful experience for locals and visitors alike. My husband and I have found it to be a recurring destination for sports viewing, adding to the pub's appeal as a...
Read moreWe used to eat quite regularly at the Brunel as it’s our local pub/restaurant but recently the food quality has massively gone downhill. We ate at the Hungry horse in Brislington last week and the food was amazing! The quality, the quantity and it was well presented. Ordered food from the Brunel, waited over 45 minutes for our food to come out in poor condition. We asked for a medium rare steak, it came out well done and had grease or burnt fat all over it. We could scrape it off with a knife. No gravy with the Yorkshire pudding wrap. The mushrooms were burnt and the plate contained no garlic butter drizzle. We enquired about our food, and the woman serving seemed as though she could not care and when we asked to speak to the manager claimed she was the manager. She then offered a refund to us. We explained that we used to eat here all the time, but recently we have had : uncooked (pink) chicken, egg shell, and a fly in our food. Very disappointing, I’m not sure if there was a change in chef but something...
Read moreI had the most amazing first visit at this pub which is under new management again, this time by two gay guys- though it isn't a gay pub. Fabulous atmosphere, friendly young people, and liberal historically well versed old timers. It's clean, stylish- though keeping the old atmosphere fitting to the local area. Will definitely be going back with my family! The outside area is beautiful, the staff are friendly and can serve quickly, prices are reasonable. Everyone was getting on with each other and the place was comfortably packed. Loved it! Loved it! Loved it! Definitely recommend. Don't know what's happened here in the past, but right now this is one of London's undiscovered gems. A veritable oasis of liberal London. I'll...
