Read moreAWFUL EXPERIENCE!!! Not the same as it used to be. Unfortunately, had an appalling experience here. Monday evening, restaurant was not busy. Ordered 2 starters and waited almost 45 minutes before the waitress came over and asked “are you still waiting for your starters?”. She then went to check and came back to apologise and say that the order has only just gone through. We then waited another 15 minutes for the starters which was a very sad and disappointing caprese salad with poor quality mozzarella and very average arancini.
The waitress then took my cutlery away and brought the mains without providing any cutlery.
We ordered the ravioli and the aubergine parmigiana. The parmigiana was cold. Not even warm. Actually cold. Like it had just been taken out the fridge. We told the waitress who lifted up the bowl of parmigiana and she said “oh yes I can feel it’s cold”. The ravioli was also cold and was undercooked.
At this point after waiting over an hour and being served cold food we decided to just pay and leave. We asked for the bill and they charged us £39.45 for 2 starters, 1 main, and water. They said they had given a discount but there was no discount because the aubergine parmigiana was sent back and they charged us full price for everything else.
Absolutely abysmal. Avoid if you don’t want poor service and cold food.
It’s a shame because I actually used to like coming here and have recommended it to my friends but after this experience I won’t be coming back and will warn...
Read moreHow many times have you thought that eating Italian means eating the usual pizza or pasta? Yes, I know—everyone has, and today I wanted to try what everyone tries, meaning: I had pizza, and my partner had pasta. I’ve always heard about this café/restaurant “Italiano,” so today we tried it. As always, it must be explained that calling yourself an Italian restaurant and actually being one are two different things. Oh well…
I ordered a Margherita pizza with added mortadella (since it was Emilia-Romagna week—the attempt at a regional menu is commendable, but then again, the real menu is always made by the ingredients and technique… but that’s another story). My partner ordered pappardelle with slow-cooked beef cheek.
The pizza was half-cooked and half-raw, which explains the inexperience of the “pizzaiolo”—or rather, he’s not a pizzaiolo, just someone placed there to stretch dough. The mortadella was cut too small (from a 3kg block, probably), with only three slices, all torn, and the quality was really low. The pappardelle were overcooked, the sauce was too salty, and it tasted like BUTTER! Why cook everything with butter in Italian dishes? The problem is always the same: low production costs and pretending to be Italian.
Don’t get me wrong—for “most” palates, this place is “Oh my God, it’s amazing!” But for those who know Italian food, it’s just passable.
The cocktails were excellent, though, and the general manager was smart, quick, attentive, kind, and...
