🚇 Bethnal Green 🍺 £6.50 Bitburger Lager
The Camel is located in a quiet backstreet in the Globe Town area of Bethnal Green. The nearest Tube is Bethnal Green.
This pub was built in the mid-nineteenth century and was at one-time a Taylor Walker Brewery house. The most striking part of this building is the impressive burgundy tiled exterior.
This is a compact one bar pub that is traditionally decorated with a warm and cosy feel. The servery has a dark wood counter and nice detailing across the front and the back bar. To the left of the servery are a couple of poser tables, a drinking ledge and shelves with an assortment of board games. Opposite the servery is a narrow section of tables which leads to the back of the bar which has more seating, a large mirror and flowery wallpaper which runs throughout.
The beer selection is solid and offers a diverse selection of beers which included three cask ales. I decided on a Bitburger Lager, my pint was great, price point was above average. The food menu is a range of hearty homemade pies with eight different types to choose from. The pies were very popular and were continually coming out of the kitchen with dollops of creamy mash.
We arrived around 1pm on a chilly Saturday lunchtime in January. The pub was absolutely packed with an upbeat atmosphere and local pub feel. There was a good mix of punters from all age groups and walks of life, there was around 60/40 split of drinkers to diners. The service was first class, the chap behind the ramp was engaging and friendly.
@the_camel_pub Is an outstanding backstreet local that is a joy to spend time in. The traditional local pub ambience, the beautiful tiled exterior, a solid choice of beers and the highly celebrated pies make this a must visit London pub.

Read moreA proper hidden gem in Bethnal Green! I first discovered The Camel through my boyfriend, as it was his favourite spot, and it quickly became mine too. Even before I moved to the area, we’d make the trip just for the pies (which are absolutely fantastic). Since moving here five years ago, it’s been my go-to local, and it never disappoints.
What truly makes The Camel special is Debbie, she always checks in to make sure everything is just right. The staff are always lovely, and over time you start to recognise the regulars, which just adds to the charm.
The atmosphere here is cosy, friendly, and full of character. Whether you’re popping in for a quick pint or settling in for the evening, it’s always a...
Read moreNice, unpretentious pub. A selection of Adnams beers on draught, plus Brooklyn, Lagunitas and rotating guest ales. A good (and growing) selection of bottled beers too. The hot food offering is limited to Pie Minister pies, but it doesn't disappoint.
Inside it's a tight squeeze, although even when busy it has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The decor is pretty standard East London retro chic but, unlike some nearby (cough Well and Bucket cough), it really isn't style over substance.
The Camel is frequented by a certain star of TV and the big screen who shall remain nameless, but keep an eye out if you're there on a quiet...
