Read moreI recently visited the pub for an evening with guest after having an Amazing time courtesy of E.J..who created a fantastic atmosphere last year, I visited again this year to find out that E.J is no longer at the Crown..and boy you can tell..! The Bar was empty, it had no atmospheric direction..as in football on a massive screen with teams nobody had even heard of or seen before...low level music that nobody could hear or understand...then we had three guests on the other side of the pub, who decided they wanted to watch the eurovision song contest at full blast so they took over one the TV screens ..! so a confused atmosphere was created... I ended up playing music from my phone on the bar to create a local atmosphere for my group of guests...which was embarrassing for such a great and historic pub..clearly who ever is managing this pub has no idea how to create an atmosphere for its guest. Unfortunately I won't be rushing back....words of advice if it's a sports bar then show sports, if it's a music bar then play music that we can hear, if it's a talking bar then play nothing .... but for the sake of your customers don't do it all at once and expect your customers to stay....whilst you stand there not seeing this....running a pub is not just pulling pints it's creating an experience....! E.J Come...
Read moreWe were excited to try this pub as we are local but haven't managed to do so since it re-opened last year. I must say, I wish we didn't. We arrived around 2ish on a Sunday. The pub was empty. The bartender/waiter was very friendly, he brought us the menu and was very professional. We wanted to order pigs in blanket and fish and chips and we were told, they were unavailable. Okay, so we went with the Sunday Roast which was apparently served the first time. The Roast was extremely dry, the vegetables were undercooked, it was almost non-edible. I mentioned it to the waiter, who was very apologetic and took the feedback on board for the kitchen. Shortly after we finished our meal, the waiter turned up to serve fish and chips to a newly arrived guest. I asked him, it that a fish and chips? And he said, "Yes" They just received a last minute fish delivery (on a Sunday afternoon???). At that point I was utterly disappointed and could not wait to leave. The waiter was kind enough to give us an £8 discount from our meal but we still paid almost £90 for a terribly cooked meal. This place may be good for drinks only, but please avoid the food. I have dined in similar pub's before where the food was much better than here. We will...
