We visited The Crown, our local, on Friday. After dining (food is good, but not cheap) while my partner went to the bar to order us a dessert to share & a drink, six guys descended on our table. Their familiarity was out of order as they settled at our table as if they were old friends not complete strangers; sitting in my partners chair uninvited & practically kicking my dog who was asleep under the table as she was on medication as she recovered from an injury.
Somewhat in shock, I asked the men to leave - they took no notice of me. When my partner returned I was feeling very uncomfortable. Four of the guys moved, & the chap sitting in my partners chair vacated; albeit reluctantly. Still, two guys remained commandeering our table.
I called for the manager who was not interested & didn't see what my problem was. I do not expect to be intimidated by six men when my partner leaves me to go to the bar & practically pushed out of my seat so they can take over our table, & I certainly do not expect the manager of the pub to find my complaint inconvenient when it does happen. I expected him to advise the tanker welding golfers that their conduct was rude.
We were meeting friends at the pub after dining but left to go to St Margaret's instead. When we left the golfer thugs mouthed off to us!!! It really was a most unpleasant experience. We'd done nothing to warrant their rudeness.
We're appalled & shocked, especially at the mangers attitude. We won't be returning anytime soon if the manager can not & will not address bullies.
UPDATE: After the owner called me & did nothing to convince me that this horrible experience would be dealt with properly if it happened again, I will not be returning to The Crown. There are plenty of lovely, dog friendly pubs in St Margarets, Richmond, & Twickenham. It's a shame when people can't put themselves in other peoples shoes; I'm sure the owner would have been outraged if his wife was treated the way I was if he'd left their table for a few minutes. The Crown is supposedly a family friendly pub; not a place where one expects to be...
Read moreWe were disappointed once again from our local pub - The Crown in St Margarets. We popped in today for a quick bite and a drink. We ordered two portions Triple Cooked Chips with peppercorn dipping sauce and two portions of Truffled Cauliflower Cheese to go with the glass of wine. Once again the very delicious ( in the past) peppercorn dipping sauce was extremely watery , heavily diluted without a single peppercorn in there. This was not for the first time, we noticed the change of the quality of the peppercorn dipping sauce every time during our past few visits and even addressed it with the duty manager. I asked the waitress today for some sauce with a bit of peppercorns inside and she brought me the same watery sauce with some whole black pepper sprinkled on the top which was ridiculous. Does the chef know what exactly is the peppercorn dipping sauce ? The tasty cauliflower cheese in the past ( again) was unpleasant to eat today. It was uncooked and with some strange watery sauce which supposed to be a melted cheese. A few hours after we left The Crown we both got upset stomach with cramps. Sadly we won’t be visiting the pub we like anytime soon. Update with regards the manager’s response: Thank you for your lengthy reply. The fact that 26 other people (who had ordered the peppercorn sauce) and 30 people (who had the cauliflower cheese) does not mean that they were satisfied with the quality and the taste. They simply did not bother to leave any review. We could not pretend that what we were served was ok, it was dreadful , made us unwell by the late afternoon/evening and we thought you should know and make sure that The Crown does not lower the quality of any food including peppercorn sauce and the cauliflower cheese. We wish you a very Merry Christmas and improving the quality of the food you serve in our much...
Read moreBooked this place for my mum’s birthday, she wanted to go for a roast and The Crown has great reviews. Unfortunately our experience wasn’t great at all..
We were sat at a table indoors which was right next to the kitchen and bar so it was noisy and uncomfortable. Also it was too small for our group. We were a group of 5 but the table was suitable for a group of 4, they just added an extra chair on one side. There were plenty of other tables around the pub so not sure why they seated us here... it seemed like the worst available table.
My mum asked if we could be seated outside and the lady said there were no tables available, I’m pretty sure I saw some empty tables...
The service was slow. They also got my dads order wrong, he asked for the carrot and nut roast but they brought out a carrot salad. The waitress said she’ll get that sorted and took the carrot salad back in the kitchen but then another waitress brought it back out and placed it in front of my dad, again we had to say that wasn’t correct. They also forgot our vegetables with the roast so we had to remind the waitress.
The only positive I can say is the food is decent and the pub is lovely, but the service isn’t great and we also felt like we weren’t treated the same as other certain guests were treated. Unfortunately I wouldn’t...
