I have to say this is a fairly exemplary pub which is all the more striking given it largely serves as a station pub. The decor is traditonal but still clearly exists in the modern era and will have survived many refurbs whislt still retaining the ambiance of a gritty station pub. I particularly like the carpet and the furniture along with the snooker being played. Also being a lone-standing Tudor I find it a real gem. The lighting was also very tasteful and had a nice natural darkness. This was accentuated by the nice tinsel and Christmas tree. The staff were particularly pleasant and add to the pub. Nice selection of Greene King cask ales too.

I have deleted my old review so I can update it! I just don't see how this place has gone downhill so much in just over a year! Staff have no interest in serving drinks and will happily ignore you (when you are the only ones at the bar) and then when it gets a little busy you end up having to clear glasses yourself - the picture of the table is when we sat down and even when the place had quietened down after football no one cleared glasses in the 1.5hrs we were there. The stink of the toilets have meant that the middle of the pub is the place to avoid also. It's such a shame that the staff have got so bad and this place is going to ruin.

Nice enough inside and the staff member was efficient and not unfriendly but I'm sorry... FOUR POUNDS FIFTY for a 330ml bottle of coke zero no ice? And pubs wonder why younger people aren't going out anymore. They're too smart to put up with the disgusting prices and complete lack of respect for value. Taking the proverbial mate. Genuinely insane. Any pub charging that deserves to go out of business. As I say, no criticism of the staff member, and even though I should have just walked away without paying I didn't want to add stress to their day.

for some reason i can't explain i had never been into this pub until recently, despite its attractive look. then, one day, on the spur of the moment, we decided to go. we had our little dog with us, and, to be polite, as with any new pub we go to, we asked if it was okay to bring him in. after a few minutes of a barman not knowing and then having to ask his manager, we got the approval - reluctantly, we felt. in fact, we felt like troublesome children, despite being twice her age... the fact that it was the same day as the first game of the euro, and england were playing (i think, i'm not really interested), the pub was extremely quiet, so you would have thought we'd be welcomed. i wasn't drinking (alcohol) so asked for a bottle of still mineral water, which seemed to confuse the barman. we had thought about getting some food while we were there, but their deep fat frier wasn't working. argos is only around the corner - you couldnt go and buy one in the meantime? for the sake of making money? so, for our first visit, our impression is that the staff are incompetent, unfriendly, and see customers as an inconvenience. the atmosphere wasn't great. there were less than 10 people inside, so we went outside to the so-called, "beer garden". back yard, maybe, but definitely not in any definition of 'garden' i've ever heard of. apart from the rain (can't blame that on them), things improved. the customers out the back were great - maybe they didnt feel welcome inside either, as despite the rain there were twice as many outside as there were inside. altogether a friendly bunch, i don't know if they're regular. will we go back? possibly, but probably not. most battersea pubs (except the chains, eg wetherspoons and the slug & lettuce) readily accept dogs, and even provide water and sometimes treats for them. other battersea pubs seem to have friendly and welcoming competent staff. other battersea pubs, from my experience, are a lot busier, and it seems easy to figure out why. such a shame, as it is a good-looking pub that has seen my family drinking there for several generations. try the railway, or the four thieves, or the bank, or the windmill. much better pubs. i don't like to leave a negative review, but it's the truth. get friendlier staff, be more openly accepting of dogs, and you might see things...

I had to rewrite & repost as the manager was clearly in the wrong with his rudeness, he can not take it but ppl need to know this as I wouldn't sugguest this place there r much nicer ones close by

Your response is extremely unhelpful,

Friendly? U left my friend crying on her birthday she complaint the manager was rude. I'm not happy with how u treat your customers, yr staff is v inattentive, it doesn't make u look gd at all

Regarding yr policy u sound unprofessional. Firstly if it was addressed differently, the manager showed us the bins in the bar or u told us to keep all our stuff with us or warned us to throw the food, when u saw us sitting at the table then we would of picked somewhere better for the event, had everything with us instead of the confrontation wiv staff.

The manager choose to chase us outside, to be disrespectful & caused things to escalate enough to antagonize me and to make my m8 cry, v appalling. So eat yr words, I am glad u r aware I am not coming bk as I've got nothing positive to report

It did not seem like he wanted to talk to us when we had questions about the menu or asked for things from the bar, he was v curt.

I am gonna continue to keep calling u out & posting all negative reviews. Yr not ppl friendly and not trained to work in this industry

U deserve no star for how u treated us including my m8, I wouldn't come back here for a drink again from my visit last month.

I do not reccomend this bar to anyone, v poor service & communication.

Your all better off choosing somewhere else. The managers is a miserable man did not want to do his job.

We felt unwelcomed, he was v hostile about my friend having her party at the pub.

Managers unhelpful, unapproachable & rude. Spoiled our night & made us uncomfortable.

No remorse when I spoken to him about his behaviour RUDEST OWNER EVA even in the responses to this feedbacks outta order & beyond rude.

U clearly have no respect. WORST BAR TO VISIT OF CLAPHAM DNT EVA GO HERE staffs will...

As much as I wanted to leave a good review of this pub, after the experience my family had it is not possible. We came in for my sisters birthday and ordered food. We specified one meal to be gluten free as my dad has coeliac disease. We were told by one of the bar staff that there was no gluten free bread, and we said that was fine. We asked for the food to be brought out at the same time when we ordered but it did not. Three dishes came out, and the gluten free meal had glutinous bread on it. We flagged this up and they took it away. Another 25 minutes went by, and we asked about where the rest of the food was. It then came out after us asking, and it was appalling. The food was dry and lukewarm. The roast dinner was slapped on a plate, and it had no gravy (we had to ask for it). We said we weren’t happy and we’re given a refund, however it was a shame as the pub is lovely and we were disappointed with the outcome as it was for my sisters birthday. Would definitely avoid if you have any intolerances or allergies as there is no communication between kitchen and bar staff. Was a shame as past visits were very good and the food was good....
