went in on sat 9th may 2015 around about 9 pm went to the bar ordered 3 drinks (lager me 52 years of age, Guinness my 47 year old friend and a coke my 26 year old son) upon ordering i was told my son was to drunk and they had been watching him for 5 minutes we had been in the building 2 minutes upon which i explained this only to be told again they had watched him for 5 minutes this is untrue we had been in our hotel room for approximately 2 hours (without any drink or drugs) as we see each other once a year on this occasion i was disgusted with the way i was treated as i am a former licensee having trained with Bass Wales and West, then worked with Scottish and Newcastle, Select pub co, St Austell brewery and Spirit group all as an established well respected manager i then looked around the room to see more than a handful of drunken customers and to be asked to leave when this is occurring in your establishment is insulting and very embarrassing your policy on serving people under the influence during the day is something else i find strange maybe your staff were tired and wanted people to leave i'm not sure and maybe having a homeless guy patrolling and cajoling people outside the establishment says it all for me i'm afraid i await your reply with anticipation yours sincerely Mr Stephen...

Firstly, the place itself is a Wetherspoons Pub. That in itself is often a deal-breaker in my circles.
I had gone to the ASDA to get some mutton and had thought there was a cafe inside. Turns out, there wasn't, so I tried the Moon and Square pub. Without even reading the name of the place or even realising it might be a Wetherspoons.
The service was great. The coffee or tea is self-service, was bottomless and pretty (for a pub with self service coffee). They even had soy milk. The breakfast was as good as any other pub where I've had breakfast. I'd rate it lower than a Wimpy and a Cote, both of which are favourites if mine. The staff were friendly
There was no issue when I wanted to swap one ingredient for another.
So all in all: A short wait for good food. Great coffee. It's not Nero, but it's good.

Upon my second visit I was informed there were toilets upstairs; Which were very clean and well stocked. And adequate in number.
It now...
Read moreThis Wetherspoons pub used to be much better, but the quality of the beer and cleanliness of tables has got pretty bad as of late. I find that I'm constantly having to return beers such as Bishop's Finger, Abbott Ale and Doom Bar because they've gone off. Furthermore, the beer (ale) is served cold, when it should be at room temperature. I've finally decided to take my custom elsewhere, so now go to the General Roy instead.
UPDATE: I visited this pub again during the first week of February 2020 and have upgraded from two to four stars as there seems to have been an improvement with regard to table cleanliness and beer quality. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to follow that visit up due to the horrendous roadworks outside that have been causing a loss of car parking space in the High Street and Victoria Road opposite.
UPDATE (Dec. 2022): The roadworks have now long gone, and so visited the pub again, this being the second time in two weeks. Unfortunately, the tables are again being left dirty and uncleared, but no issue with the beer. Back down to...
