Great food, service and value near the Tower of London. As an F1 fan I’ve been to a number of the races. And as a foodie, I’ve eaten in all sorts of places, from chip shops to Michelin star. So, F1 on a massive screen with surround sound and a massive Sunday roast, what better combination?
Just around the corner from the Tower of London, it’s a wonderful and history filled walk to The Moretown Belle. Unlike other pubs, you’re greeted at the door by a host, with a warm smile as soon as you arrive. There’s plenty of seating , from booths, high tables and singles to groups. I went with my sister and we both decided to have the chicken for our roast. What surprised me was the variety and amount of vegetables. Fantastic - peas, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower and carrots. I’m pretty sure we had a whole chicken between us. The plate was topped off with roast potatoes and an enormous Yorkshire pudding.
We were true heroes and managed to eat a lot of it , but had to admit defeat. You definitely will not leave this place hungry after that roast.
Service was slick and professional. I like the smart uniforms and how nothing was too much trouble. More gravy? A proper gravy boat arrived promptly. More drinks? Table service in a blink of an eye.
For a part of London you’d expect to be a tourist trap, this is not. Locals, regulars, sports fans who find it online and book with their mates, families, and now me! It’s lovely to find an independent non - chain pub that really cares about just being brilliant. We...
Read moreHad a burger and fries with my partner on a Monday evening.
I originally wanted to book the darts area, but couldn't figure out how to on their website, so I hoped we'd be able to find it empty. However that was not the case. The host advised me that in the future, if I want to book it, I need to specify it in the notes section.
As we were already there, we decided to have dinner. They have an offer on burgers: Monday-Friday, 11-7, 2 for 1. I went for the Big Belle Burger, whereas my partner went for the Mighty Mike. For drinks, she opted for a pint of tap water and I went for a pint of lemonade.
The drinks arrived first after 5 minutes of waiting. The burgers came a bit later, but we didn't have to wait for more than 10 minutes.
Both burgers were quite big and were accompanied by a sizable portion of fries. Due to them being quite big and the sauces getting into the buns, we had to eat them with the fork & knife. Mayo, ketchup, salt and pepper were already provided on the table, which was a nice touch. Both burgers tasted very good and we're glad we went there.
The only negatives are the normal price of my burger, £22.95 and the atmosphere: this is a sports bar with TV screens everywhere. And I mean everywhere. So they can get a little distracting. And I can imagine it can also get a bit rowdy during...
Read moreUtterly disappointed by our experience there. The blonde lady ‘in charge’ of tables for formula 1 races (wearing the racing suit) is extremely rude and unprofessional. We asked for a table (2 people) near the big screen (as there were some empty places) and she rudely just said no with no apology and no explanation when we had booked in advance, and stating the tables were for “regulars”. We didn’t say anything and accepted another table with a small screen to then see the blonde lady eating and laughing with the “regulars” and watching the race on the big screen where customers could have been seated instead of her. She basically keeps tables for a group of friends and pushes everyone else aside. So not accommodating and I’ll definitely not become a regular there. I’ve never seen anything like that before. That being said, the other waiters and people working there were super lovely and helpful and food was good! Won’t be...
