I had really been looking forward to this exhibit! I was thrilled to have the ability to download the app ahead of time & really enjoyed the commentary from the photographer & his sons. There were 2 areas that I think could have been improved upon, however:
1: There was background music playing (Elton John, etc.) as we meandered through the exhibit. This would have been fine had we not been trying to listen to the commentary. I have hearing loss, so unnecessary background music/noise makes it extremely difficult for me (& most people with hearing loss!) to understand information in background noise. Everyone was already listening to the commentary as part of the purpose of the exhibit, so the background music was completely unnecessary. Upon exiting the exhibit, I actually mentioned this to the workers standing near the exit, & the man said, "Well, the devices have volume control, so we thought people would just turn up the volume!" Well...not everyone was listening to the commentary on their devices. I was listening through my hearing aids & was unable to increase my volume to be louder than the background music. It would have been great for the group putting this together to be a bit more inclusive of people with other needs & consider the background music. If the idea had been to read panels of information in each section of the exhibit, than background music would have been a great addition, but since the purpose was to actually listen to commentary, the background music really detracted from the overall experience.
While the photos really were great, some of them were enlarged SO MUCH & the venue was SO SMALL it was difficult to really appreciate the extremely large photos since we were viewing them from such a close distance. It was the perfect distance/venue for viewing the smaller photos. I would have preferred to have see all original photographs in this more intimate setting, but if the idea was to have massive photos, having the exhibit in a larger area so that we could really appreciate the large photos would have been great!
In all, I'm glad I attended this exhibit & enjoyed it for the most part, but a couple of changes would go a long way in improving the...
Read moreA moving and beautifully fitting tribute to the incredible Princess Diana, her life as part of the Royal family, her achievements, her role as loving Mum, her character incl. playfulness and inner sadness, and most of all, her empathy and kindness which reverberated, both directly and indirectly, to millions around the world. Some of the photos brought back treasured memories of the time when the photos were taken, and some moved me to tears. Despite the Royal family internal challenges in recent years, the portrayal of Princess Di and her two boys whom she utterly adored, Prince William and Prince Harry (and their respective partners Kate and Meghan) is done sensitively, focussing on the joy and happy times spent together rather than family rifts (ie. no detracting from the King or other members of the Royal family whatsoever). I’m sure even those who are not necessarily huge fans of the Royal family would enjoy this fascinating and personal account of her life and times told in beautiful pictures. It also provides a wonderful insight into the work of Royal photographers and their relationships with the Royals as individuals, and how much hard work goes into getting these magic shots which then become the portal for the rest of us to glimpse into Royal lives. It showcases the wonderful relationship between Anwar and his two sons and of his passion for his craft being passed down through the generations. The exhibition is also easy to navigate with simple, brief descriptions for each section and a simple audio guide with only brief narratives - ie. no arduous paragraphs of reading to get bogged down with - simple and effective. A lovely coffee shop/bar awaits at the end along with a small gift selection. Highly recommended for something different...
Read moreWhat a beautiful tribute to someone we all miss so dearly. I have loved her all my life- not for fashion- but for her heart. I could see the stories in the photos because they were presented in a way which brought each one to life- full of details I had never seen before. I cried at the touch section- she broke so many barriers. I was teenager when she held the hand of an aids patient. It was a huge story. Seeing it up close and how young she was- wow. There are so many tender and touching moments. These are so much more than powerful photos- these are the story of every face in them brought to us so artfully and carefully curated with real affection that shines through. The behind the scenes details in the audio made it even more powerful. I loved it. Thank...
