Paul at Champagne Route is an absolute gem! From the moment you step in, he makes you feel incredibly welcome—always pleased to see you and somehow managing to squeeze you in, even on his busiest days.
Unlike other places that focus on big-brand champagnes, Paul curates a phenomenal selection of small, independent producers. His cellar is constantly changing, which means every visit is an opportunity to discover something new—champagnes, crémants, sparkling wines, wines, and even beers you won’t find anywhere else. The menu, spanning multiple sheets of A4, can be a bit daunting, but there's no need to stress—just tell Paul what you like, and he’ll find you the perfect bottle. Even if it’s tucked away in his cellar, he’ll get it chilled for you in no time.
While you wait, take my advice: order a glass of his house champagne or crémant. It rotates frequently, and if you're lucky, you might just find yourself sipping something that rivals (or beats!) the big-name, big-cost champagnes served elsewhere.
Don’t be put off if the place looks quiet or hidden behind his large outdoor umbrellas. Once you’ve discovered this hidden gem, you’ll be back—again...
Read moreBrilliant place for a glass of fizz and the food is amazing too. We have been in several times to have drinks with friends - often tempted by a snack we have tried the cheese platter and oysters in the restaurant. All delicious - the owner Paul is brilliant and happy to give you his recommendations. With recent lockdown, I was my fiancé’s birthday and I was struggling to work out what we could do. Paul at champagne route saved the day - I enquired and he sent me several options for delivery and even ordered oysters in for us. The menu Paul suggested could not have been more perfect - two meat options and a fish main. We opted for oysters, followed by beef and salmon tartare, with fillet of beef and confit duck for mains. The oysters were delivered on ice with garnish/dressings and tasted so fresh. All the food prepared was so tasty!! Restaurant standard, delivered with a personal touch - this place is an absolute gem! The cremant is also a lovely alternative to a champagne. Very surprised to see a handful of negative reviews, very unfitting from what we have experienced on multiple trips in to...
Read moreI went with a friend last night to Champagne Route and we had the most lovely time. The staff was friendly and attentive, the restaurant has great ambiance, cosy but sophisticated.
We shared the Bruschetta with parma ham and tomato garlic sauce to start, which was delicious, I particularly loved the sauce that had a mousse like texture and the careful presentation of our meal.
For my main I had the Confit Chicken, mushroom ballotine, pan fried kale, red wine sauce garnished with pomegranate - which was cooked to perfect tenderness.
My friend has the Gruyere and asparagus tartlet with mixeld leaf salad, which I didn't have a chance to try but was told was delicious!
We matched our food to the house wine, both perfectly lovely.
All in all we enjoyed the atmosphere and food and look forward to coming...
