Always a pleasure to visit Rajdoot, one of the very few restaurants in London which are worth going to as often as possible. By this I'm not trying to discredit the many amazing restaurants this city can offer, but let's face it. Some of them have great, but super-expensive food, some of them are worth the experience once, maybe for the fancy interiors or the cool-looking food (which usually looks better than it tastes), some of them offer just bland food and you wonder why they're so famous. But very few places in London offer a mix of AMAZING food, FRIENDLY environment and CARING personnel like Rajdoot. It's always a pleasure to eat their incredible curries (I have a thing for their Lamb Saag, but I swear all the dishes I've tried so fare have been equally mouth-watering) and have a chat with my friend Rumen. It honestly feel like going to a generous friend's house, the type of friend who cares about manners and decor, but also wants to give you his best food. It's no coincidence locals (including many smart 'celebrities') love this place. There are two Rajdoot owned by the same family, both superb. This one is the 'historic' one, which has been around since 1964. What makes this one a little different from the other is its tiny space, which I personally love because it makes it more like a big dining room, where you always end up chatting to the neighboor. If you want to feel the real London, interact with real locals and eat incredible food, then look no further!

Most arrogant manager standing at the counter. He doesn’t even has the basic courtesy to talk. It seems that Indians are not welcome at the hotel. As soon as we entered and placed our bags and sat on empty tables he said you should ask before sitting as this is not India. These people do business in name of India and don’t even have the basic courtesy to talk to customers. They even rejected entry to an Indian couple rudely even when the seats were available. Also the menu is for looting customers. They will display an item of 6 pounds and then say that per person you have to take a main portion taking 9 pounds extra for it. They are looting people in the name of India. This is not Indian ethos neither Indian courtesy. Anyone who is looking for Indian food should not go here as this restaurant lacks any Indian character. They are looters in the name of India. Specifically beware of this old man whose photo I am uploading…the owner is not Indian. The food is not Indian. The chefs and staff are not Indian. So don’t enter this restaurant thinking it is Indian.

We were regularly enjoying a take away from the Rajdoot. However on our last two orders we tried to use their NHS 20% discount offer on collection and were refused both times. On the first occasion we were told that it's only 10% discount for collection. We accepted this information and put it down to our misunderstanding but this photo is taken from their website. It clearly states 20% discount for NHS staff on collection. The second time when we asked about it again, we were told that it was only if you dined in. Again, that is clearly not what it says. Haven't been back since this experience. Have no issue with paying full price for the food but it irritates me that it's advertised as 20% discount for NHS staff but then not given and also made to feel uncomfortable about asking. Food is variable. Sometimes have had good meals but others have been underwhelming.

We visited in December 2022 on our visit to London. This was the most pathetic service I have ever received from any restaurant. The waiter ( elderly man with a beard) was so rude right from the start! There were just 2 guests dining when we walked in. We a group of 4 adults and 3 kids waited at the door. Although he saw us he seemed ro ignore us and was busy chatting up with the customers seated. We wanted to leave but as it was freezing cold outside decided to wait for a bit. Then I asked him if we could get a table or 2. He looked irritated, went back to the customers he was serving and told them quite audibly that he was sorry he has to leave them for a bit as we had walked in at the 'wrong time'. ( We didnt see a right and wrong time board outside😁) He showed us to a seating area downstairs and left us with 2 menu folders. My friend who doesn't know much about wine asked him if they had red wine when the waiter came back, to which he sharply replied with an angry face that we should first look at the menu card before asking him anything!! I was appaled by this behaviour so I told my husband that I feel we should leave at once and not eat here. But again , we are just visiting and didn't know much places around, was late evening so we decided to just order. The seating is pretty crammed and we asked if it was OK to move the table a bit away from us to make some space between he said..dont move it too much! (Again rude tone) The food was just mediocre and very greasy. We are Indians and that didn't taste anything like a biriyani to us! I asked for yoghurt and he said that will cost extra!! And I said that's fine please get the yoghurt. He was rude all the way but in the end came back with the bill ( hand written) and a fake smile and stuck a few chocolates into my sons hand. The food was pretty bad except for one dish which was good( chicken jhol I guess) . We paid 75 pounds and while walking out he said I hope you enjoyed the meal in his pathetic English. We just left, didn't bother to thank him as there was nothing to thank him or tip him for. I don't usually write reviews and seldom give negative ones but this was just pure rude! We live in Kuwait and have dined at countless restaurants here and abroad. This one was just a tiny regular one with only a...

DISGUSTING--I WOULD GIVE FEWER THAM 1 STAR IF I COULD: Inedible does not even begin to describe the food at this place. Some time ago, this was my local for cheap, good Indian food, so I suspect older reviews were accurate. I am not sure when the ownership has changed, but the food is now disgusting and the service is lackluster. As an example, the Chicken Tikka Masala was so sweet. Who adds sugar to Chicken Tikka Masala? As the national dish of England, it is standard and this place managed to muck it up. The so-called stellar service tried to mansplain this was the flavor of cream...but then why add sugar to the raita and naan? Plus, when even Sainsbury's and other mass produced chicken tikka masala can manage to get the flavour correct, then what is wrong with this place? As for the rave reviews for the staff, they were aloof, borderline aggressive, and rude when confronted with any criticism. They started to remove the tablecloth while we were still eating and dismissive when we asked why they had added sugar to everything. They did ask if they could serve something else, but as everything we ordered (lamb biryani, chicken tikka masala, dal makhani) was sweet and/or incorrect (they used the wrong lentils for the dal makhni), it did not seem worthwhile to take a chance. Don't be fooled by the high score on google reviews! A quick perusal of the reviews will show many of these reviews were likely from the restaurant owners or associates; the comments are generic and repetitive, and the English indicates the reviews are likely not from patrons visiting the restaurant. Similarly, several reviews indicate they were given some incentive or inducement (free food, free dessert) for posting a positive review. It is a shame this system is being manipulated...but beware and do not eat here...you will undoubtedly be...

The balti chicken was very nice. Not too overly spiced. Very generous and really tasty. The papadom and chutneys were good. The tandoori roti not so good. It was cold and crispy like the papadom. It was too hard. A roti should be soft and melt in your mouth. This was dry and bland like a supermarket roti. Like cardboard. My biggest issue were two things. Service needed to be way friendlier. There were way too many staff standing around doing nothing and watching you eat. Very off-putting. Do you really want someone watching you eat? They were not friendly. Be friendlier, smile and be polite! The upstairs is way too small and tight. The table by the door was so annoying! Do not sit here! People passing you all the time, rocking the table and then having to hold your drink tightly so it didn't fall, as the table kept shaking. They need to move that table. You then have the waiters watching you! Felt like being in a show. My other issue was travelling the world to over 90 countries, I have never been charged for chutneys in an Indian restaurant. These are normally provided as complimentary. The best part is they charge you £0.95 per chutney. Yes, it does say this on the menu but they could have made it clearer. I only noticed after. Daylight robbery. I wouldn't have bothered had I known. Ridiculous. Some of the rice dishes and bread were cheaper. The prices of the other items were reasonable but to charge this much for chutneys is beyond crazy. I enjoyed the balti chicken but the tandoori roti, service and seating arrangements were not great and being charged so much for chutneys was the icing on the cake. There are better places where staff are nicer, you can eat without having a theatre audience of too many staff watching you in a tightly packed space and, where you get...
