The Royal Oak is a lovely corner pub in Marylebone, just a few minutes from the station. It has a gastro pub feel with a large open bar, dark and woody walls and flowers dotted around the tables. For the warmer days, there is also a small area at the front of the pub for sitting outside.
The beers at The Royal Oak have been selected by Rod Jones, the institute of brewing and distilling beer sommelier of the year 2015/2016. They also work closely with a few key wine merchants to offer a broad selection of flavours in their menu.
As it was a warm day, we just had to have an Aperol Spritz (my staple drink…) as well as a cappuccino.
The Royal Oak has plenty of space downstairs in the livelier ‘pub like’ atmosphere or there is a separate dining room upstairs. We took a pew on stools by the window, so we could people watch as we eat.
We weren’t quite prepared for three courses, so we skipped the starters. It was a difficult decision given there were a great selection of small and larger dishes. This included the Nduja scotch egg, roasted garlic aioli (£7) which we spotted a customer avidly tucking into. Other choices include glazed confit chicken wings (£5.50), Asparagus, miso, black garlic (£8) and Chicken liver mousse (£8). We could not resist some sourdough bread (£3) though – so good!
We visited on Sunday so could choose from four roast dishes all served with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, season greens, roasted shallot and honey roasted carrots and parsnips. The Lamb with black olive and mint sauce (£25) called out to us. It was cooked medium rare and was succulent (there is fat which you can easily cut off). The roasties were fluffy and veggies were delicious with the glaze. However, we thought the price point was too high (for any roast really, not this one specifically).
The desserts completely stole our hearts! The Apple and pear crumble, vanilla ice cream (£7) was outstanding. With generous layers of warm fruit and crumble with rich ice cream, it was divine. A very close second was the Sticky toffee pudding, pecans, vanilla ice cream (£7). It was a moist sponge with a rich toffee sauce and the extra texture of the pecans was great.
The relaxed atmosphere makes The Royal Oak pub in Marylebone inviting for a drink and a bite to eat. We would definitely return and would be keen to try some of their seasonal mid-week dishes on offer. They also run London themed beer and food evenings throughout the year which...
Read moreWe are writing to express our sincere gratitude for the fantastic experience we had at your venue on the day of our Civil Partnership ceremony.
From the very beginning, your team went above and beyond to make our day perfect. The booking process was incredibly easy and we had all of the information that we needed beforehand - regarding arrival, food and drink. We especially appreciate your understanding when some of our guests arrived early due to the rain. Allowing them to come in before the official opening time and offering them coffee was such a kind gesture, and it helped everyone feel comfortable and welcome.
The room itself (above the main bar area) looked stunning when we arrived. The recent refurbishment really complements the entire Royal Oak, and the space was perfect for our celebration. It was clean, tidy, and well-organised, with immaculate facilities.
A big thank you to Adam, who was on-hand throughout the event to ensure our guests always had their drinks topped up.
The food was a real highlight of the time, and our guests absolutely raved about it, especially the fish! You catered to everyone's tastes beautifully, and the quality was outstanding.
Your attention to detail and dedication to making our day special did not go unnoticed. We truly appreciate the efforts of your entire team, and we would not hesitate to recommend the Royal Oak to anyone looking for a beautiful and accommodating venue for their special occasion.
Thank you once again for making the beginning of our Civil Partnership ceremony...

Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Cost to worth it rating: 3 Opentableable: yes Return worthiness: yes
Highlights: Atmosphere: one of nicest pubs I've been to. Clean, open feel to it. Service: waitress was cheery and timed out starters and mains for a friend coming to meet us Scotch eggs: could tell was made in house. Eggs cooked just right with a jammy texture and the sausage had a bit of a kick with the addition of chorizo. 4 stars Sandwich: Turkey, cranberry, and pigs in the blanket all inside a warm panini style sandwich. Unique and tasty. 4 stars Cider: one of the better ones I had with a nice balance of crispness and only a hint of sweetness. Dog friendly: my friend's dog wasn't sunny allowed in but welcomed with water and biscuits
Midlights: Sandwich didn't come with chips and they looked so good regretted not ordering them.
Lowlights: Desserts sounded grand but was too full to order any
Loved this delightful lunch and would come back...
