Really busy pub on the 'toilet gig circuit', hosting good london based bands, and some too from much further afield.
When I arrived outside in my Uber ride I thought I'd wanderd into a scene from Luther (his crack den building). Massive bouncers outside rubbing gig goers down before being allowed inside.
Once inside there was a nice mix of the trendy set and the rest were the people in town who are gentrefying the area.
Live venue out back is small and functional . ..but do ask for the free ear plugs behind the bar....you'll need them!
Three bands on the night all good standard.. . Drinks reasonably priced and not a rip off.....
Fantastic bar staff .... MAX was the man!!!
Most surprising thing on the night was the Burger and Fries from the pub grub menu. Superb . Unbelievably good. ..
Would recommend ....it's fab a dodie.
Will be going again . . You need Uber as not much around the area apart from the Shacklewell .....
It's a must do night out. . Do it at least once. . .... then you'll want to do it all...
Read moreIâm sorry for leaving a one-star review since the pub itself was nice but never ever in my life I was treated with so much disrespect as the female bouncer there treated me. Iâm a 27 year old woman, arrived there completely sober and didnât cause any trouble. However she decided to tell me my German ID card isnât legit (it definitely is, I used it anywhere in the world without a problem ever), laughed at me for not owning a drivers license and refused to let me inside even tough I had a legal document with me. Someone who works there even came outside to tell her that I am allowed inside but she didnât care and kept on humiliating me for no reason. She then had me waiting outside for 15 minutes and let all of the other people in until the male bouncer finally let me in. I acutally had a panic attack because I was treated like a criminal without any reason and I wouldnât recommend to go to this pub unless they hire...
Read moreAs the hipsters and trendy people get pushed out of Shoreditch they end up towards Dalston/Hackney. Definitely a dive bar theme, but the free music events in the back room make this place a must visit if you're in the area.
It's a really odd/good atmosphere, you walk in and get a feeling that this is a run down old pub, but find your way to the back room, you'll usually find some music on. At night this place becomes absolutely rammed!
During the day a relaxed vibe that whilst not in keeping with the semi-pretentious nature of this area, and the raw-ness of this pub adds some grit to proceedings.
A reasonable real ale selection, reasonably friendly bar staff, and whilst your not on to a winner if your just a pub goer, if you want to check out new bands, this is the...
