Would not recommend this place for Christmas or any occasions where you have a party of probably more than 4 people. I would not trust them to get the booking correct. They may b ok if u just want a drink or something to eat on a normal day but for large parties/occasions they can not cope. Firstly they double booked me for a wake, when we arrived the area I booked 3weeks prior was occupied by another wake party so they put us in the middle of the pub by fruit machines, here we were interrupted by general public using the machines, they gave us the wrong buffet, suspect they gave us the buffet that was booked for the other wake party that had the area we were supposed to have, and gave them our buffet menu. They offered compensation, but when we came to settle the bill there was no compensation, in fact they had overcharged us on both the drinks and food bills, we ordered buffet menu 'A @ £7.99 per head but got charged for menu "B; @ £9.99 per head, so when we came to pay and kept being given the bill for buffet "B", at one point during my making the complaint, the manager told us the he had given us half the covers at menu "A" and half at menu "B", definitely this was not what we ordered and although the staff were friendly enough and willing to sort the problem they seemed to have difficulty operating the till as they can not void a transaction and start over. If they took an item off the bill, the price was going up instead of down. They are incompetent for functions I would say and would not in future use this pub for anything of importance. We were actually overcharged by £100 and the manager was supposed to call and sort out the credit today - but no surprise he did not call. My advise do not have a drinks tab or buffet as they will sting you if they think they can get away with it. I am taking legal advise regards this practice they operate and the...
Read moreUpon arriving at The Stag & Hounds for a Mother’s Day meal at around 5:30pm, we were able to park with ease. I had purposefully booked a table and paid £15.00 to secure the booking, so upon entering the pub, there was no one on the door to greet us and check our booking. There was a guy in a white shirt, I’m guessing is the manager standing, laughing and joking with other regulars who were seated. When I asked him where we could sit as we had booked, he said flippantly, “oh, just over there” thinking he was being funny, which he wasn’t. Eventually, another member of staff, had to clear a table so we could sit down, and yet we asked to move as the table wasn’t appropriate. After moving tables, we ordered via the QR code, which is on each table. We soon discovered that what we wanted to order wasn’t available. Eventually we did order our food and drink just before 6pm. At 6:30pm we were still waiting for our drinks, which I had to ask for at the bar. After about another 10 minute wait, our food arrived. The whole experience had soured our enjoyment, so as soon as we had finished our meals and drinks, we left. Oh, and the £15 I had already paid wasn’t taken off the bill. So on that note I won’t be returning to The Stag and Hounds...
Read moreFebruary 2025 We recently decided to give the Stag and Hounds another try for a family meal, hoping for an improved experience under the new management of Benjy. Unfortunately, we were left disappointed.
After taking our time to choose from the menu, we were informed at the point of ordering that several key items were unavailable—this included all chicken dishes, anything with bacon, and even the steak sandwich and salads. It became clear that many freshly cooked options were off the table, with only pre-prepared dishes like lasagne which could be oven cooked or microwaved seemingly available. We understand there were problems with the gas hob and grill.
While we appreciate that restaurants can occasionally run out of ingredients or have problems in the kitchen, we would have expected the staff to inform us upon arrival rather than after we had made our selections. The team seemed unaware of the situation, which only added to the frustration.
Regrettably, we decided to leave and dine elsewhere. We understand that running a restaurant can be challenging, and we appreciate the hard work of the staff, but this experience did not meet our...
