Edit and update.
I have left the original review below for clarity, but after receiving a response from The Sun, they asked us to go back and try them out one more time with a complimentary roast. Have to say, this time round, much much better! A great roast, much better meat and nice warm yorkies too.. Thanks for meal guys.
original review Having just had an email from the pub requesting me for a review I thought I would take the time to write one here about our Sunday lunch in the hope it can be a form of constructive criticism. But, having now read many reviews here there seems to be a recurring theme of complaints, which is a shame that these problems also occurred for us
Overall, I am of a mixed mind about the place. On the outside, the building is very understated and could do with some sort of decor, but the inside is beautiful in its shabby-chic-ness, bright and with an ample-sized garden. Inside, the bare rafters give it a great vibe and its decor is exceedingly inviting.
The staff were incredibly friendly and cheery, although it took a while to find my booking even though I had been personally emailed only an hour or so before that we were confirmed, for our party of 4.
The food, yes, it's pricey for what it is! If there was sufficient amounts on the plate it would not matter, but we left hungry and decided to get our dessert somewhere else that may give a more adequate portion for fulfilment.
For lunch, 3 of us had lamb (and 1 had the veggy option) and alas, it the lamb crunchy over a lot of it and came in slim slivers which is not to be expected,. Also, the Yorkshire pudding was not crunchy, and was tepid. A yorkie was also missing from the vegetarian roast (but was delivered when requested)
On the flip side, what was on the plate, was tasty, but it is just, overpriced or undersized (and a bit over cooked on the meat), which as I mentioned earlier on, this seems to be an occurring issue, which if i had read the reviews before coming, we may have gone elsewhere. Shame as the pub is...

I will be back;
As I arrived, the person at the bar greeted me and said my table might be ready. Theyâd check. We arrived 30 minutes early. Luckily, there was a table ready. This was Sunday lunch. I adore the atmosphere, a diverse group of people enjoying each other's company in a setting that draws you in. We ordered the delicious Sunday lunch pork belly with all the trimmings. A large serving takes some time to complete. We had to pause, continue chatting and then continue on. The meal was truly delicious and looked enticing, too. Full, we paused but didnât want to leave without dessert. We ordered sticky toffee pudding and a brownie, both of which come with ice cream, which I passed to my aunt. We ordered teas with our meals; we would have preferred teapots instead of a cup on such a cold day. I received mint tea instead of green tea. But it wasnât necessary to fuss, and I enjoy mint tea, so it's not the end of the world.
We were sat next to the door to the outside tables. I had to pop my jacket back on so I didnât get a chill, but again, it wasnât a big deal.
Will I be back? Yes. Will I come back on Sunday for Sunday lunch? Without a doubt. It is a true Camberwell Green gem.
Iâll check out their Comedy night, too.
Thank you, Matilda, for your service. đ
The food was too delicious for us to take pictures of. We had just been walking around Ruskin Park, and our bellies were ready for the delicious offering.
Also, note that the employees appear to be enjoying their work. I noticed they seemed happy with each other. Long may...
Read moreManager responded to our polite request to swap our friends (who had a booking) over to a table closer to us (which had nobody seated in it and no booking for another hour or so) like we had tried to steal her first born.
We werenât expecting them to say yes but a polite decline would have been fine (âSorry guys, canât do it, COVID and everything!â) and we wouldnât have really cared instead of having this woman raise her voice to us like we were a pack of rowdy toddlers. It was weird and embarrassing for her. A total jobsworth.
We then tried to split out tables up a little so that we were a mixed crowd (rather than have a single person sitting alone at a table across the beer garden). A genuine misunderstanding that this wasnât allowed. This was followed by the same manager bee-lining it to our table to again raise her voice and threaten to cut our drinks off. Again, you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. We werenât being aggressive, rude, callous. We just made a mistake thinking this was ok. There was utterly no need to start threatening us.
After this âaltercationâ the serving staff basically stopped coming over to serve our table. It would seem what began as a polite ask had ended in us being persona non grata. We took our two booked table-loads of people and left to go somewhere more hospitable.
Also: Food was bland and tasteless. âFestiveâ chicken burger was about the saddest looking thing I have ever had served to...
