Best place in Camberwell for a Roast. The vegetarian wellington tastes really nice and the vegetarian gravy is top. The sticky toffee pudding is unbelievably good, the best I’ve had anywhere. The service is excellent too, particularly in the restaurant bit. I made a last minute reservation to come for lunch today and the place was packed so we were sat at the last free table with high bar seating at the front. One of the staff spotted that my mom was struggling with the high seating as she has MS and she came over and told us she was going to sort it out and find us somewhere more appropriate. She conjured up a free table within a minute despite everywhere looking full and moved us without fuss. I always bring friends and family here when they want to go somewhere local. It can be noisy in the front section but if you can get a table in the back, it’s the best of all the pubs in Camberwell and Peckham for a properly good roast.

Local pub with massive space in and out The building is old ( which gives a vibe) Visited for Sunday roast. The roast it self was very mediocre ( the lamb dry and overcooked without seasoning , beef like a shoe , salmon pan fried - nothing special. Their bar snacks were mediocre too - as the calamari was small portion for ÂŁ7.5 and very soft for crispy. Delicious Bloody Mary Service chaotic and slow Very low hygiene standards Expensive ( paid ÂŁ40 for a roast , and two drinks)

Delicious Food! Just, SO tasty! And it's prepared right in front of your eyes. (open kitchen) The staff is absolutely great, even if there's a lot going on, they always have an eye open for you. The atmosphere is really relaxed but still lively. live music on Sundays is a great plus as well as other events on regular days, like quiz nights. (Also free WiFi - you wont really need it, but it's a plus) Let me sum it up. Good food, good staff, good atmosphere - > go there :)

Edit and update.

I have left the original review below for clarity, but after receiving a response from The Sun, they asked us to go back and try them out one more time with a complimentary roast. Have to say, this time round, much much better! A great roast, much better meat and nice warm yorkies too.. Thanks for meal guys.

original review Having just had an email from the pub requesting me for a review I thought I would take the time to write one here about our Sunday lunch in the hope it can be a form of constructive criticism. But, having now read many reviews here there seems to be a recurring theme of complaints, which is a shame that these problems also occurred for us

Overall, I am of a mixed mind about the place. On the outside, the building is very understated and could do with some sort of decor, but the inside is beautiful in its shabby-chic-ness, bright and with an ample-sized garden. Inside, the bare rafters give it a great vibe and its decor is exceedingly inviting.

The staff were incredibly friendly and cheery, although it took a while to find my booking even though I had been personally emailed only an hour or so before that we were confirmed, for our party of 4.

The food, yes, it's pricey for what it is! If there was sufficient amounts on the plate it would not matter, but we left hungry and decided to get our dessert somewhere else that may give a more adequate portion for fulfilment.

For lunch, 3 of us had lamb (and 1 had the veggy option) and alas, it the lamb crunchy over a lot of it and came in slim slivers which is not to be expected,. Also, the Yorkshire pudding was not crunchy, and was tepid. A yorkie was also missing from the vegetarian roast (but was delivered when requested)

On the flip side, what was on the plate, was tasty, but it is just, overpriced or undersized (and a bit over cooked on the meat), which as I mentioned earlier on, this seems to be an occurring issue, which if i had read the reviews before coming, we may have gone elsewhere. Shame as the pub is...

This is only the second time I’ve been, yet I have lived not far away for over twenty years.

I will be back;

As I arrived, the person at the bar greeted me and said my table might be ready. They’d check. We arrived 30 minutes early. Luckily, there was a table ready. This was Sunday lunch. I adore the atmosphere, a diverse group of people enjoying each other's company in a setting that draws you in. We ordered the delicious Sunday lunch pork belly with all the trimmings. A large serving takes some time to complete. We had to pause, continue chatting and then continue on. The meal was truly delicious and looked enticing, too. Full, we paused but didn’t want to leave without dessert. We ordered sticky toffee pudding and a brownie, both of which come with ice cream, which I passed to my aunt. We ordered teas with our meals; we would have preferred teapots instead of a cup on such a cold day. I received mint tea instead of green tea. But it wasn’t necessary to fuss, and I enjoy mint tea, so it's not the end of the world.

We were sat next to the door to the outside tables. I had to pop my jacket back on so I didn’t get a chill, but again, it wasn’t a big deal.

Will I be back? Yes. Will I come back on Sunday for Sunday lunch? Without a doubt. It is a true Camberwell Green gem.

I’ll check out their Comedy night, too.

Thank you, Matilda, for your service. 😁

The food was too delicious for us to take pictures of. We had just been walking around Ruskin Park, and our bellies were ready for the delicious offering.

Also, note that the employees appear to be enjoying their work. I noticed they seemed happy with each other. Long may...

Manager responded to our polite request to swap our friends (who had a booking) over to a table closer to us (which had nobody seated in it and no booking for another hour or so) like we had tried to steal her first born.

We weren’t expecting them to say yes but a polite decline would have been fine (“Sorry guys, can’t do it, COVID and everything!”) and we wouldn’t have really cared instead of having this woman raise her voice to us like we were a pack of rowdy toddlers. It was weird and embarrassing for her. A total jobsworth.

We then tried to split out tables up a little so that we were a mixed crowd (rather than have a single person sitting alone at a table across the beer garden). A genuine misunderstanding that this wasn’t allowed. This was followed by the same manager bee-lining it to our table to again raise her voice and threaten to cut our drinks off. Again, you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. We weren’t being aggressive, rude, callous. We just made a mistake thinking this was ok. There was utterly no need to start threatening us.

After this ‘altercation’ the serving staff basically stopped coming over to serve our table. It would seem what began as a polite ask had ended in us being persona non grata. We took our two booked table-loads of people and left to go somewhere more hospitable.

Also: Food was bland and tasteless. ‘Festive’ chicken burger was about the saddest looking thing I have ever had served to...
