The joy of the railway station pub is an almost universally appreciated joy. And while The Surbiton Flyer isn’t technically a station pub, categorised in my mind by having a departures screen somewhere inside so you can see how many more pints you can squeeze in before running for your train, it’s proximity to Surbiton station certainly brings it close. An old Barclays bank, bought and converted by Fullers 1995, it’s a cosy boozer with a clean interior. Since it’s refurb some 4 odd years ago(?), it’s brought with it that All-Bar-One aesthetic, weirdly keeping in theme with grand Bank entrances, hotel lobbies and railway station concourses. It’s just a bit posh basically, but a sort of faux-poshness, filled with people waiting. Drinks-wise, it’s Fullers and your usual Fullers pub beers. Nice to see (another, since Fullers are only down the road) local brewery here with Big Smoke Electric Eye, although on this occasion, it was a little soapy. In my previous visits here, the London Pride has always been excellent - I should’ve known better. I haven’t had the food here but it does get good reviews. While I love to get proper unsurprising pub grub, it’s hard around this particular one. Next door you have Surbiton Kebabs & Fried Chicken - who I love, not only for the chicken/wraps, but when a car reversed into their shop a few years back, they chose to rebuild it exactly as it looked before and always has. The station itself has more history than the pub. It is “considered one of the finest modernist stations in Great Britain”, is Grade II listed, built in 1937, and designed by Scottish architect James Robb Scott (also designed Waterloo and Richmond among others). It would be nice if they cleaned it once in a while, although it is set for a huge refurb so maybe they can find time to push a broom around. The station was used in Harry Potter if you’re into that too. Overall, if you’re in the area and you find yourself with some time before getting on a train, make sure you’re by the kebab shop entrance, grab a pint, and some wings for the journey. A compact Fullers pub perfect to relax in while whittling down the minutes.

Something must be wrong with the chef's personal life recently otherwise there's no valid explanation as food was inedible. All the potato chips were so burnt they were unrecognisable as potatoes. And these were normal HOUSE CHIPS (not even sweet potato, take note of how dark they were in the pic and take reference to the slice of lemon for a colour reference guide). My beef burger was so dry that you can't simply bite through, and the only way was to cut through the patty seperatly WITH FORCE using knife and still the patty would take time to chew through. How would they even have the audacity to serve these up?

I have eaten here a few times but lately i am finding the food has gone down in taste and quality. Had the posh bacon and egg sandwich on the weekend was terrible. The bread was stale in texture may be sat under a hot plate too long, bacon was on the fatty side and eggs where metallic tasting to me. For some reason there was a sprig of dill in there which really does not work in terms of flavour. Having said that this a good place for a beer and the staff are very friendly.

RIP BEST PUB GRUB IN SURBITON

We used to come to this place for the best food I ever tasted in a Pub fresh hand made burguers. Fresh Handmade tortillas apart form serving flat beer the place has Ok Came for our dinning anniversary and ordered our all time fav burguer only to be shocked at the quality the beef burguer been exchanged for frozen burguer we can clearly taste it. The hand mader Tortillas they used to make and other starters seem to have gone to pot too replaced by doritos LOL In sum we are really pissed off to say this kitchen has gone to pot real shame too we used to love coming here. On top of that my missus went the loo and overheard the manager and the chef chatting about the complaint and the chef has calling me names and got embarrassed when he saw my partner and the manager saying I think he knows about the burguer ...after I repetedly complaint about not being the same (Word of advise I work in hospitality for 17 years if you are aware of the changes don't try to hide it ) ....Not impressed paid and left did not even finished my meal and after complaining and 3 quarters of the burguer went back and not has not taken from my bill . The manager did offer anything else but by then the meal has spoiled wont be coming back unless I am 200% sure you guys are not skinmming costs in that kitchen and by the way Chef I am in fact too smart for you to fool...
