I'm a big fan of spoons. The Coronation Hall is up there with my least favourite... why you ask? How dark and dingy and narrow it is. The best place to sit is by the windows, but it tends to be hard to get a seat there. I have easily been to the Corrie over 100+ times. I would recommend going to The Tun instead. Update 15/11/24 Did I mention the service is bad for a Spoons. -1 Star for service. The order took forever at 2.50pm - it arrives eventually. The server, pleasant enough, not his fault. Apologised for the wait. It took me a good minute to realise I had not ordered pizza on the app, but a wrap. At good Wetherspoons establishments they follow up with how is everything after about 5/10 minutes (maybe this has been scrapped?). I tried to get another member of staff's attention but it didn't register. In the end I ate the pizza instead of the wrap. Oh well, at least I like the pizza they served. Note to the staff dealing with orders at The Corrie. Read the order carefully. I have added pictures for your reference. Update - will upload screenshot of their order fail later.

Visit the Coronation Hall fairly often as its close to the train station and reasonable prices. Curry Club is decent, get plenty of it and served hot and fresh with a drink for around £10. Being a Wetherspoons it's just a normal pub, but do find it very dark and pretty dull inside. It is getting more and more difficult to find a seat to go and eat and have a few pints now, the abundance of plug sockets means people are coming in early with their laptops and having just a single unlimited coffee - while hogging the booth one person to each all day. The toilets are mostly always vandalised - not sure why it's such a hotspot but often trashed. Updated 26/07/2024: Downgraded based on food and drink quality. The bottle of beer was mostly warm. And the food was not good. Although was supposed to be a small fish and chips - under the batter was just like a goldfish. Nothing there. The chips were stone cold. Only thing that tasted good were there mushy peas which were freshly hot.

The crime scene was obvious. Drinks late. Poached eggs missing. Orders confused. Patrons parched. The manager arrived, calm and professional, offering substitutions and solutions. Innocent. The suspects were clear. The chef hiding in the kitchen unable to poach eggs. Waiters flustered, mixing orders, burying the 10 minute timer and promising drinks that never arrived. One friend ate a meal bone dry while complaints echoed from the next table. Another victim of the chaotic Pepsi conspiracy. The building itself seemed to smirk, remembering darker days when the lights were dim and the dress code was optional. Exhibit A. The plate finished before the Pepsi even arrived. The breakfast menu under the plate, outlining the crime scene. Every detail pointed to the perpetrators. Not the manager. Not the patrons. The chaos came from the kitchen and the floor staff, unable to fulfill their promises. Verdict delivered. Guilty. Chef and waiters.

This has become my local. Why pay inflated prices for drink when they have an excellent selection of craft ales. Ordered the fish and chips for lunch. When it arrived I was immediately drawn to the size of the portion of chips. An anorexic would have complained at the portion size! A few kind words in the assistant managers ear and a generous serving was provided, albeit somewhat begrudgingly. It was hot and edible, but not up to the usual high standard. On collection of my plate, there was no enquiry as to “ how was your food, sir?” I felt compelled, to say I was disappointed. To his credit he asked if I would like a complimentary sweet on the house? Bloody right, and it was excellent. Fudge cake and ice cream. Only downside was, I went to the loo leaving an almost full pint of forty niner craft ale. When I returned nowhere to be seen! Maybe? I had made the wrong impression and they were keen for me to leave? Not so, with a fresh pint, courtesy of Witherspoons, the assistant manager explained.” Don’t leave your pint unattended as it will be removed. Cover the top with a magazine, this will let us know it is still live.” The only magazine in sight was a copy of Witherspoons own, god knows how many times this has been fingered and poured over.On my next visit I will bring a copy of Playboy, or Penthouse, although there is a very strong likelihood it will have been “ adopted” before my return, by a lonesome regular, in an attempt to evoke some fond memories of a former sweetheart, and my pint no...
