Honestly, I do not know where to begin. My friend and I, on Wednesday around 5.30pm, were looking for a pub to have dinner after visiting the theatre and saw this pub and thought it would be the perfect spot considering I myself have worked in 3 Nicholson Pubs so I knew first hand the level of service that should be maintained. Oh how wrong we were. We entered and asked if we could start a tab and were immediately met with an eye roll from the waitress, we thought nothing of it and continued to order our meals.
Once our meals arrived we realised both our chips were cold, my dish was missing a sauce and my friend's steak was overcooked and missing the garlic butter. We then asked the waitress for a steak knife, which she didn't give us to begin with, sauces and tried to complain about the meals but we then met with another eye roll and I was told that they must do their dishes differently which is why the sauce had been missed, when I know from working at the pubs that the spec for the meals is the same in every Nicholsons Pub. Whilst this was happening, who I presume to be the manager, stormed over and asked what the problem was. We explained the problem and then he asked my friend to cut open her steak and show him what was wrong with it and told us that it was medium-rare. After we explained to him that it wasn't he aggressively said 'Well what do you want then?' and she explained she just wanted the steak to be cooked correctly and to have hot chips. He then preceded to snatch the plate away from her and walk away.
We eventually received her meal and it was cooked beautifully, however, whilst eating our meals we could tell that all the staff were talking about us and telling their co-workers what happened and pointing and this made us feel extremely uncomfortable and very unwelcome and we wanted to leave as soon as we finished.
This experience put a huge damper on our day out and we definitely will not be visiting again and advising our friends and family to...
Read moreAfter dining at the Three Greyhounds in Soho on Wednesday night at around 5:30pm we were left extremely disappointed and quite upset. We specifically chose this venue as my friend who I was dining with, has worked for multiple Nicholsonâs pubâs, and knew first hand of the high standard of service that was maintained. Or so we thought.
The girl behind the bar, we were met with an eye roll every time we spoke. Then when our food came out, both of our meals were cold, missing items, and I had to ask for a steak knife. (Which would have been fine if werenât met with another eye roll) I was going to not worry about the cold chips but when a I cut into my steak it was almost fully brown on the inside when I had asked for it to be medium rare; And when Iâm paying a decent amount of money for a steak, I want it to be right. My friend insisted I should say something as at the Nicholsonâs pub she works at, they wouldnât mind in the slightest and would prefer me to enjoy my meal rather than be disappointed.
This was also not the case, when I said something to our waitress, the manager (I assume) came over and asked what the problem was. After I told him the problem he then asked me to cut open the steak and show him and then insisted it was medium rare. After I insisted it wasnât he then quite aggressively asked âWell what do you want thenâ and I said I just wanted a medium rare steak and hot chips, he then grabbed my plate and took it away.
This left us feeling really put off.
After he brought it back, cooked properly he was a lot nicer but every other waitress we encountered were very sour, and saw them talking and laughing while pointing at our table. This made us feel extremely uncomfortable and unwelcome, We were never offered the desert menu, if we wanted another drink, or if we enjoyed our meal. Our plates were taken away without a word.
Our experience of the service at this pub put a damper on what was otherwise a really nice evening at...

A Small but Perfectly Formed Soho Favourite.
The Three Greyhounds is located in the south east corner of Soho close to Cambridge Circus. The nearest Tube is Leicester Square, itâs a four minute walk to get here.
This pub dates back to 1847, The Three Greyhounds is named after the dogs who once hunted hares here when Soho was open ground. The mock Tudor exterior and leaded windows make this an eye catching boozer that stands out from the surrounding buildings.
This is a cosy one bar pub that has a âye oldeâ pub feel. The bar area is wedged shaped with a little nook on the left hand side. The servery has a solid wood counter, brass fixtures and is located along the back wall of the bar. The seating is mix of traditional low level seating plus a few poser tables dotted around.
The beer selection was pretty good and included premium lagers, a bit of craft plus five cask ales. I decided on a pint of Paulaner, my pint was excellent, price point was to be expected. The food menu was full of hearty pub classics, Fish & Chips costs ÂŁ18.
I arrived around 1pm for a midweek lunchtime pint. On arrival, I had the place to myself but the pub soon filled up with local workers and tourists. One fella opened a bag of peanuts which flew everywhere which had everyone in stitches. The service was great, the barman was welcoming and friendly. The pub also hosts live acoustic music throughout the week.
@thethreegreyhounds is a fantastic little boozer that delivers a great all round Soho pub experience, get it on your list.
