Feedback on Recent Experience
I have been a regular visitor to this pub for several years, and it has also been the venue for our company’s summer party for the past few years. I’ve always appreciated the vibrant atmosphere, energy, and excellent service that make it a great place to gather.
However, I would like to share some disappointing feedback from my recent experience during our company’s summer party. I was informed that I was not suitable to be served a drink due to allegedly being rude to the staff. If I unintentionally offended anyone, I sincerely apologise. That was never my intention.
Here’s what happened: I asked about a vegetarian board listed on the menu. The staff directed me to view the menu via a QR code. Unfortunately, it took my colleagues and me nearly 10 minutes to load the menu due to poor network connectivity and a slow-loading website. In a noisy and crowded environment, we finally managed to find the vegetarian board and placed our order alongside chicken wings, which my colleague ordered. We paid with our own card.
While the chicken wings were served within 10 minutes, the vegetarian order took more than 20 minutes. When food finally arrived, we were given only fries, and later a vegetarian burger – which was not what we had ordered. After some back-and-forth, our order was refunded, but only partially – the cost of the fries (around £6) was not reimbursed.
Following this, I went to the bar to get drinks for my team. Initially, I was served without issue, but when I explained the situation regarding the food, I was met with unexpectedly rude behaviour. I was told that special meals needed to be ordered seven days in advance. I questioned why the order was accepted if the item was unavailable, but I didn’t receive a clear response.
Later, when I returned to the bar, I was refused service, being told I had exhibited bad behaviour. I want to stress that I have lived in this country for 25 years and have never faced such a situation. I’ve always taken pride in my culture and the positive contribution I’ve made to the community. This incident left me feeling deeply hurt and unfairly treated, as though I had done something seriously wrong.
I want to be very clear: I am not making any accusations or drawing conclusions about bias or discrimination. That has never been my experience here. However, the way I was treated felt unnecessarily harsh and distressing, especially given my long-standing relationship with this venue.
I’m sharing this feedback not to complain, but to highlight how such situations can deeply affect someone’s trust and comfort in a place they’ve...
Read moreSo, so - I guess - but generally fine. I only stopped as a break on a walk from Streatham to Wimbledon and there was nothing wrong - fairly standard pub with a fair amount of space, nicely located. Not sure what happens in the evening (I was there 14:30) but lots of tables were reserved or scheduled for removal. Probably wouldn't have liked that but wasn't there, so who can say? Big outside area but too cold.
Just seen the response from the owner... I think my rating is fair and I don't see why a 3-star review is that disappointing for a place I felt was pretty average. It's not in the Good Beer Guide, the beer I had wasn't great (in my opinion), I didn't eat and I can't recall any particular interaction with the staff. The signs I saw didn't mention "live music" just that the tables would be removed 5.5 hours later. 5 stars, without halves, doesn't give much differentiation and a higher score here would place it in the same bracket as places I simply enjoyed more. I also appreciate that audiences for whom the establishment resonated more would give higher scores, as they should. It was a "genuinely fine" experience and an opportunity to warm up and take a break at the closest available location on a coldish day. I wouldn't seek it out but neither would I dissuade anyone who finds themselves on its doorstep from entering. It's just expectation management.
(To clarify "not in the Good Beer Guide" - it is present in a "Nearby Pubs" search on the GBG website - goodbeerguide.org.uk - but not in a "Good Beer Guide Pubs" search.)
In the interest of balance, I visited The Grosvenor in Hanwell the following afternoon and found it broadly similar in theme. I rated the Grosvenor 4-star due to the broader cask ale selection (it is a full-on GBG pub) - that was the...
