Really recommend avoiding this place.
Multiple black hairs (my hair is a light brown and noticeably longer) under my vegetables. Really seemed purposeful with multiple placed together under the food but if not… pretty serious hygiene concerns in the kitchen. Really hope that’s all they added… Maybe they heard my American accent and decided to mess with my food? I certainly wasn’t saying anything loud/controversial/political (I also happen to be more critical of US policy than any European or Brit I have ever met lmao), but I’m not sure what else would’ve singled me out for this sort of thing.
Mashed potatoes were pretty clearly made with instant flakes.
Vegetables had been frozen and were soggy in a puddle (would’ve been better without the added hair).
“Pie” was a smallish bowl of beef stew with a square of puff pastry placed on top. Kinda weird because the fish and chip portion was big and looked good.
Unfortunately didn’t get any silverware until asking for it about 5 minutes after my food was delivered, though my dining partner got a set when we ordered.
Prices for food and drinks were high. The food cost might be okay if the quality and hygiene had been better, but… Two entrees (one of them being one of the cheapest on the menu) and four beers was 67 pounds.
The amber ale was pretty good at least? However I think you can find good beer in the area at places that are more trustworthy...
Read moreI was weary of coming here as the reviews in the last few months have not been great. I have to say, the negative reviews from the last few months should be ignored. They do sound like one or two people who creating multiple reviews that just didn't fit our experience.
This is a lively neighbourhood pub (at least lively at 6:30pm). Very clean, bright and friendly service. Many regulars clearly were settling into a pint and conversation. I can't speak to whether children are allowed in here, but the inaccurate depiction of a tyrant owner barking at patrons is way off.
The indian food was what brought us here and it should bring you here as well. Yes, you can probably get a similar dish in a specialty indian restaurant for a couple pounds less, but the food here is amazing. Our curries were served in bronze bowls that were heated over candles. There are a couple items on the menu that include rice (a meal combo if you will), but we decided to go a la carte. The palak paneer had a nice cream sauce and the cheese was lightly browned. We also had the lamb jalfrezi with a nice hint of cinnamon that surrounded our table.
Again, a little more expensive than most places, but if you want to pair an English pub experience with excellent curries, this is the place to go.
As a frame of reference, we (regrettably) went to masala zone on Earl's court with a couple friends a few nights later. It...

I'll excuse the ridiculous drinks prices because it's London, but the food was poor quality and extremely overpriced. I ordered the fish and chips which was on special for £9 (normally £15). It was genuinely lower quality and smaller than what you would get from a fish and chip shop for under £5. I then had to explain to the waitress that it was on special and written on the door, because she had no idea. She also seemed to have no idea about the rest of the menu.
We didn't manage to order food until we had sat there for over half an hour, despite asking twice for someone to take our order. Bare in mind it was less than half full. Once we had ordered we then had to wait another hour before the food arrived, with no warning that it was going to take a long time (we all had a train to catch). We then ended up having to split the bill ourselves as this was clearly too difficult for the staff to manage.
I honestly have no idea how this pub has a 4 star rating, perhaps quality has recently dropped since it seems a lot of the newest reviews are...
