I went to the white hart with my boyfriend for a Sunday roast, as a crystal palace local, I knew it was a good roast, sadly it was mediocre this time. The service needs a bit of work, one server consistently blanked both my boyfriend and I, even though she saw us try and ask for her help multiple times which made us feel like we weren't wanted. One server (and I'm really annoyed I didn't get her name) was amazing, so so friendly and really proactive, literally couldn't do enough for us. Really mixed bag of service. We waited a while for drinks and to order, food took a while (which was fine because we just wanted to chat and drink for a bit) but when the roast arrived it was a bit hit or miss. The veg and Yorkshire was delicious, super crispy and flavourful, the beef was a bit dry but still okay. The greens were watery, the gravy weirdly sweet so needed loads of salt and the potatoes tasted kind of floury, pigs in blankets were basically cocktail sausages bit steep for £4. Whilst I was still eating, the server who kept ignoring us snatched my boyfriend's plate away pretty much the moment he finished eating and I was still eating, which made us feel like you wanted us out as soon as possible. We wanted to stay for pudding but the service was a bit to slow and a bit aggressive occasionally that really put us off, took a while to ask for the bill but that came very quickly, again making us feel like you just wanted us to leave as soon as possible. Sadly I don't think we will be coming...
Read moreShambles , booked a table one week in advance for 9 . On arrival they’d given me two booths for six . As a generational family post covid lunch we decided to all squeeze round one booth , instead of being socially distanced from each other again . I did ask an employee why we were split into two tables by the toilets at the back of the kitchen , even thought we’d booked for 9 in advance. His reply was that it was a first party come , first seated . So don’t really on that fact that you’ve booked that you’d be seated together. The employe taking our order for drinks performed a great parlour trick of taking our order without pen or paper. Fantastic, drinks arrived, but on preforming this trick for our mains , we were with out one main dish and a side we’d specifically ordered . Bringing the fact we were a main down to the attention of staff , instantly resulted in a 20% discount to our bill . Which dually arrived two thirds through eating our meal. Desperately trying to enjoy the terrible experience, I informed the employee that we were not finished, and would like to see the dessert menu. Desserts were ordered along with drinks , then we informed the employees we were ready for the bill . There was confusion on the there behalf about the 20% discount, but after I’d pointed out there mistake they finally arrived with our bill . I won’t be returning , the ‘Alma ‘ over the road is a far better experience, or the ‘...
Read moreWent last Sunday to celebrate a special friend's birthday. The starters the 5 of us shared were easily the largest we've been served anywhere - the squid with lime&chilli was the freshest, lightest & tastiest ever, the pandan (?) peppers were very yummy, the sweet potato fries crispy served in trendy little metal bucket...the roasts were massive, I couldn't finish mine. There was light & crispy crackling with the pork, my beef was lovely, though I'd have preferred it rare, but chef said not allowed to, for health safety reasons, which was a shame but didn't detract from the enjoyment of a hearty meal. And the yorkshire puddings were just right, with lashings of tasty, proper brown gravy! The staff were unobtrusively&helpful. The decor was quirky & comfortable, the atmosphere easy, yet energetic. Put it this way, we were there, talking deeply, laughing & enjoying each others company for over 7 hours! Best afternoon-evening with good friends I've spent in a very long time... This is a great pub, in which to enjoy the company of new & old friends, family or for intimate couples...will definately come again, and hear there's also good local music on too. O and there's even a little vintage boutique & milliners, what more could you ask for?! Cheers! Highly...
