Can only bring myself to write about our experience now that I have calmed down and processed what happened... Booked a family meal for 12, we were commemorating the 1st anniversary of my father's death in a nearby church, the Windsor seemed like a nice place to raise a glass to him.
Booked a week in advance. Was contacted 4 days before our Sunday 1230 booking to confirm menu choices for the day... all confirmed.
Arrived on the day right on time following church service and the bar was completely empty, got our drinks order in and sat down at our reserved table with some nibbles, agreed woth bar staff that our food should follow shortly (10mins). It all went wrong from here...
Waiited for food for first plates of food for approx 50mins. A kids portion roast. Nothing came out for a further 25mins. Then 2 plates of roast chicken (cold) and after another 20 mins 2 plates of roast beef.
Complaining to the manager after the first hour, apparently it wasn't the usual chef... i would question if there was any chef.
Our orders were simply a single roast dinner course per person. Bog standard carvery operation that any pub with a kitchen should be able to churn out, especially when we are pretty much the only customers in the pub.
We eventually left nearly 2 hours after arrival and only 5 of the party had been fed. Manager charged for all plates that were served and comp'ed a round of drinks. Only two of us were drinking so wasn't an expensive round. I still ended paying £187.50 for 5 roast dinners and a few drinks and had to stop off for food on the way home.
Such a shame as the pub has great potential, but I don't know whether to be angry or sad about the experience. Angry as I feel like I was politely robbed and sad because it was supposed to be a day where we remembered my dear Dad but were instead left in such an awkward situation for me and my guests. Overall though, I think I'm still in shock to be honest that there are places running such a woeful operation and they can get...
Read moreIt used to be a nice after-work pub for me, until yesterday. Yes, the staff was changing constantly. But they all used to be nice, smiley and noticing people quite quickly (and could turn their heads 360' around!!). First of all, yesterday I was waiting for 15 (!!) minutes to be served , then nothing happened and I had to move to a wider bar area (I was obviously near the bar but in one of these small "windows"), where they kept serving other people, who came in much later than I did. No turning heads, ok. But what's with faces?? Faces while serving people looked like a dark wall - no even a sign of a smile or smth. Ok, finally I got my drinks. But the most amazing thing happened later. Before they closed (and before the bell) I ordered a small glass of red, mixed it with the leftover of the same wine I had in my glass already (so it was quite a lot in the end in total! More than a large glass!!), left the glass on a bar-type surface there, asked people to watch my bags - left them on the floor RIGHT UNDER the glass, and went for a cigarette. When I came back in there was NO glass. I asked personnel and they said that they were already closed and probably someone from them had taken the glass to clean the place, etc. I asked what could be done cause I kind of paid for it around £7. They said - nothing. I asked for a manager, a tattoo/scar guy appeared and repeated the same story. Nothing was suggested to compensate it somehow or to sort it out somehow. So, "you paid, yes, but you shouldn't have gone for a cigarette" (please note, glasses are not allowed outside). I was really irritated, really. Will never go back to these people... and advise you...
Read moreI’ve been to this pub a few times before and it’s always been fine however went in for drinks the other day after work with colleagues and was left genuinely shocked and disgusted by our experiences. There was about 6 of us, seated in the upstairs area when the barman came over and shouted at us to move, unprovoked. I’ve never experienced anything like it in my life, his behaviour was absolutely foul and borderline aggressive, as other customers nearby agreed (I see some of them have also left reviews here). I’ve never come across anyone in my life with such a lack of manners and a downright repulsive attitude - not exactly ideal for someone in a customer-facing role. He slammed a reserved sign physically onto the table and literally shouted at us that the table was reserved, instead of speaking politely like a decent human being. When we replied calmly, “sorry, we didn’t realise” (because there was no sign on the table until he flung it down in front of us), he yelled “Don’t be sorry, just get out!”
Spoke to the manager on duty downstairs, was nice enough and apologised on the barman’s behalf but what’s most worrying of all is reading these reviews and seeing that this isn’t the first time a barman at this pub, and I assume it’s the same man, has been called for offensive behaviour which leads me to believe that obviously, this pub doesn’t care enough about its reputation or its customers to do something about it. It’s safe to say we were made to feel uncomfortable, upset and unwanted – we won’t...
