After such a long awaited time to attend this show, Wicked, the entire experience was ruined by one worker who was not helpful at all. I travelled from outside of London to come and see Wicked show with my two younger daughters, both of whom have waited two years to see this production. After dropping our bags off and leaving to make it in time for the production in a cab, police officers informed the cab driver that the entire road leading to the theatre was shut due to a protest, which was not made aware in advance. I tried to contact the theatre twice regarding this and tried to see if there was any empathy, anything that they could do to help my daughters, and I would still be able to see this show. Not only was the female worker incredibly unprofessional, but she was rude and cold and informed me that even if I made a complaint, then it would only go to her or her colleague and they would still do nothing about it. They said it was traffic, even after I explained that it was the police that closed the road and were sending people on diversions, something completely out of my hands and was informed by the officer that it would take an hour to get to the theatre from Marble due to their diversions.
Due to these unfortunate circumstances by the police officers and the lack of understanding from the worker. We arrived 40 minutes late. One member of staff told me to go to another member off stuff to talk to. Also this member of staff showed they had no interest and others stating I could file a complaint. Not only did I pay for these tickets, but I also paid for the transport down from outside of London. Unfortunately, this entire experience has really been disheartening.
How can such a company not be able to handle such situations unprofessionally and think it is okay to speak to customers in such a...
Read moreSeeing Wicked live has been a dream since I became a fan at 16, and it absolutely lived up to my expectations! I went with a friend who had zero knowledge of the play – no prior influence or familiarity with the songs – and she loved it just as much. It’s a testament to the musical’s universal appeal that someone experiencing it for the first time could be as captivated as a long-time fan.
The performances were stunning, especially Christine Tucker as Glinda and Alexia Khadime as Elphaba. Bringing these iconic characters to life is no easy task – especially when so many of us have listened to the Broadway cast recording for years – but they both delivered with such energy and authenticity.
"Defying Gravity" may be the popular song, but there’s a reason for that! It’s an incredibly powerful moment that builds up the chills from the opening notes to that soaring final moment where the stage lights grow and reach out to the audience. It makes you feel like you’re right there with Elphaba as she takes flight. The whole stage design, from the enchanting sets to the wizard and dragon animatronics, highlights the production’s attention to detail and brings Oz to life beautifully.
I also love that Wicked focuses on a friendship at its core, reminding us that love and connection come in many forms beyond romance. The Apollo Victoria theater experience itself was unforgettable – the crowd was a lively, diverse mix, all united in our excitement. The theater was gorgeously themed in the land of Oz, which made the experience even more immersive. From the moment I stepped inside, it felt like I was being welcomed into Oz, and that touch really made the night feel special.
Wicked is a must-see for fans old and new, and this performance was everything...
Read moreThe Apollo Theatre is currently heavily disguised by scaffolding, as the theatre gets a lick of paint. This was only disappointing for us Wicked fans visiting for the very first time; the Wicked image and signage temporarily disguised. Oh well, another visit at some future time will have to happen to get the full experience. Whilst signage may be missing, service definitely isn't. Friendly but serious security, attentive and approachable staff, all kind and so helpful. My friend and I are both mobility challenged and knew there'd be difficulties in getting to our seats (Row O in the Dress Circle). We managed this well due to the help given; instructions to our seat, the ability to use an app to order refreshments and souvenirs to our seats before the beginning of the show, or during the interval. This was a huge help, and so were the 'Ladies', which were halfway up. If you're mobility challenged I suggest a call to the theatre to ask where the most accessible seats are, it will help you immensely - something we didn't do because we were just so excited to actually be going! The show was fantastic; there was beautiful staging, great scenery, and stunning costumes. The voice of Glinda (Lucy St. Louis) was so strong that if she were to be singing on the roof of the Apollo Victoria, I'm sure I'd hear her from Cambridgeshire, where we travelled from. I totally recommend Wicked at the Apollo Victoria Theatre in every way. The varied choice of snacks and both soft and alcoholic drinks enhance the complete experience. It's A+++ from both myself and my friend. What are you...
