Our room was clean and tidy, however, it was very, very small. And we were in a large room, not a small room. There was barely enough space for two people to stand at the same time.
Rooms had air-conditioning, however, it was not possible to control this from the room - you had to go to reception and ask somebody to come down with a remote to do it. Similarly, there was no remote for the TV - this had to be collected from reception if you wanted it.
Despite all of this, I would have given the place 4 stars, as staff were friendly, the location was good, and after all, it was slightly cheaper than the alternatives (although in the future I'll just spend a little bit extra per night for a proper room in a Travelodge or similar).
But at 8am on our final day, we were woken up by banging and what sounded like drilling. I tried calling reception to ask what was happening, but nobody picked up. So I got dressed and went to reception. When walking past one of the rooms (which was directly above ours), I heard hammering. I went to reception to ask what was happening: after-all, it was 8am. They told me the noises I was hearing must have been coming from outside, and that they weren't sure what else it could be.
I asked one of the receptionists to come with me, and took her to the room where I heard the noises. A few seconds standing outside, and there was the hammering again. She pushed opened the door, and, addressing the man with a hammer inside by name (so she knew who he was), told him he would have to stop the work he was doing, as some guests were complaining about the noise. She then told me they were having one of the rooms renovated. So, despite telling me earlier the noise must have been coming from outside, she knew one of the rooms was being renovated. At 8am in the morning! Hammering and drilling at 8am!
I could not believe that anybody would be stupid enough to carry out construction work in a small hotel with thin walls at 8am. Even worse, when I returned to my room, all the noises started again about 10 minutes later. I phoned back-up to reception, and speaking to the same lady, was told that the builders had left. Well, I'm sorry, but unless one of the guests is using a hammer and drill at 8am, the builders hadn't left.
I was very disappointed about how poorly planned the renovations were - 8am is a completely inappropriate time to carry out internal renovations. But I was furious about being lied to - the least the staff could have done was be honest about it and apologise.
Additionally, cleaning staff had a habit of filling the tiny corridors with large bags and piles of bed-sheets, towels, and cleaning trolleys. This made the very small corridors difficult to pass, but almost impossible to pass for one of the guests who had mobility issues. Furthermore, these corridors are the only escape route to the fire escape, and so should not be obstructed. This was a hazard and staff should be informed to keep fire-escape routes unobstructed...
Read moreI just stayed here (EASY HOTEL VICTORIA BELGRAVE RD) for the 3rd time in 3 years last night. Yesterday morning before i went to carnival at around 8am i was standing in the reception charging my phone on my charger, one of my friends then surprised me by booking the same hotel too and they went out for a cigarette and wanted me to come with. I offered to leave my phone charging at the socket on the floor but the girl behind the desk offered to keep it behind the desk for me. I was outside for only 3 mins tops. When i came back in i asked for my phone and then rushed off to nottinghill carnival. I got back from carnival and tried to charge my phone & its not charging properly. My charger was a brand new s6 charger which cost £25 bought only a month ago from the samsung shop in Glasgow in immaculate condition. I look at the charger in my hands which is grubby, yellow toned cable with loads grubby food stains on the usb port & its not genuine samsung cable which can damage your phone! When i passed my phone over to the girl at reception my charger was connected, long story short she told me she had the same charger behind the desk and shes switched the two of them! Thats stealing as far as I'm concerned & i called the hotel at 19:25 roughly having spent a 5 hour journey back to Scotland with no phone and the receptionist told me it was my fault for "leaving my stuff anywhere and everywhere" with an attitude! & that management couldbt help either refused to give me her name or a managers contact details! She also had no empathy and kept saying "mmm hmm" to what i was saying. The call was then disconnected when i pointed out i didn't appreciate the attitude and it was unprofessional. I work on the phones 8 hrs per day for a bank & i have never treated even the most abusive customers in this way! I left my bags there before check in and went to carnival which i paid £5 to do so and my worry is if people can steal things deliberately what happens to the bags in the back are they rifled through too?! Not the way to treat a distressed paying customer. This hotel is cheap, very claustrophobic rooms but great if you need just a place to crash/store your belongings, it's clean enough however the experience you have depends on the staff! For example the staff member that was there from 3-11pm on 28/8/2017 female she was fantastic and so was the male working with her. I hope calls are recorded and im escalating this further. Ironically I'm going back to london next weekend and due to stay here again next sunday and I'm going to maybe say it in person/put it in writing. There's no sign up that says "easy hotel are not responsible your belongings when our staff deliberately steal your possesions" it was a cop out excuse to say the least! I...
Read moreTo be fair this is listed as a budget 'hotel'. However, your normal budget hotel is mansion-like compared to here. The rooms are advertised having air conditioning. Ours didn't work, nor the room next to us. What makes it a joke is that you need a remote control to operate the air con, and there's only ONE in the hotel! You have to 'borrow' it from reception, go to your room, set the unit then take the unit back to reception. If you want to turn it off/up/down it's another trip to reception. Not fun when you're on the third floor. To make matters worse the batteries in the remote were dead. The remote isn't offered when you check in, nor are you told about it. It's left to you to work out you need a remote. The same goes for the TV remote, except you are allowed to keep it in your room. The batteries in our TV remote were also dead so we had to traipse back down and up to get a working unit. The bed was very comfortable, which helped compensate for the rest. We booked a double room, paying for two adults but you only get one small hand towel and one bath towel. Only one mains socket in the room, which wasn't too bad, not that unusual, but it's on the other side of the room to the bed, so an issue if you want to use your phone as an clock and/or alarm and leave it on charge overnight. I've seen bigger bathrooms in some motorhomes. It is actually a single plastic unit classed as a wet room. Small space, barely enough room to get in and close the door. Can't use the shower without the floor of the 'room' getting wet. The main room itself was tiny, with the bed taking up 80% of the room. No desk, no chair, no shelves, nowhere for bags or clothing, etc. The walls are quite literally as sound proof as a duvet. We could hear the person next us to on his mobile very clearly, including all the clanks and clunks as doors opened and closed, items put the floor, etc. Probably the worse place I've been to for lack of sound insulation. Not helped by the room floor having a hard surface like the type found in public toilets in pubs, etc. (a bit like toughened lino with anti-slip grit embedded). As I said at the beginning, this doesn't claim to be anything other than a budget no-frills hotel. But be aware that budget no-frills is a generous description. The staff at the 24/7 reception were polite and genuinely friendly and the hotel is in a pleasant area. But for an extra tenner you could significantly upgrade your stay in other...
