Much smaller but still impressive version of its big brother located in the centre of Victoria. The clock tower was commissioned by the Vestry of St. George’s Hanover-Square as a public convenience, sitting conveniently next to another sort of public convenience – an underground lavatory. There’s a suggestion that it may have also been used to conceal a ventilation shaft from the toilets! In design it mimics the famous clock tower colloquially known as Big Ben at the Palace of Westminster, found at the other end of Victoria Street.
