I am writing to express my profound disappointment and feelings of disrespect following an incident at your restaurant on 21 of March at approximately 11:30 . Upon arrival, despite several vacant tables, my family and I were initially seated at a very small table. After expressing our discomfort due to the limited space, the waitress kindly allowed us to move to a larger table.
However, shortly thereafter, an older gentleman approached us in a rude and loud manner, stating that we could not occupy a table meant for four people since we were only three, despite the restaurant having multiple vacant tables. Notably, other larger tables were occupied by just two patrons. This inconsistency, coupled with the gentleman's behavior, led us to feel that we were being unfairly targeted, possibly due to racial prejudice.
This incident caused significant distress, particularly to our two-year-old son, who became visibly agitated. We left the establishment feeling humiliated and deeply disappointed with the treatment we received. Effective communication within your team is crucial to prevent such distressing situations. Addressing customers in a confrontational manner, especially when there are ample vacant tables, is unacceptable. Moreover, it was the waitress who had permitted us to sit at the larger table, making the gentleman's reaction even more perplexing.
I urge you to investigate this matter thoroughly, provide appropriate training to your staff on respectful customer interactions, and ensure that such incidents...
Read moreSuch a shame that I’m writing this review, because the cafe is lovely and we’ve had great coffee from here before. Decided to have lunch there today. Menu, surprisingly, has no vegan options for lunch - I feel like it’s fairly standard to have at least one. I asked if they could make the veggie breakfast vegan, which was met with some uhm ing and ah ing, and I had to specify that halloumi cheese is not vegan. They said yes, but they couldn’t sub me anything for the eggs or cheese, but would give me more of the other stuff. The plate that arrived was literally: 1 slice of sourdough. A spoonful of beans in a tiny pot. Half a sliced avo. 4 or 5 sliced mushrooms. And half a small grilled tomato. It honestly looked sad. And for this, they charged £10. Shocking really. They hadn’t made any effort to put more on my plate to make up for substitutions, as my mum had ordered the normal veggie breakfast and that is exactly what was on her plate, plus eggs and halloumi. My sister had a lovely aubergine dish, and our chai lattes were nice. So I’m just really disappointed at the lack of care in catering for dietary requirements and making customers feel like they want to get away with charging a lot for very little value. Hopefully they take this...
Read moreVery disappointing experience!
I work in South Woodford and have been a regular at Tipi Coffee, but my experience today was very disappointing. The man at the till, who I believe is the owner and likely in his 50s, was rude and dismissive. He failed to ask if I wanted to sit down after ordering my coffee. When I addressed his lack of courtesy, he responded condescendingly and didn’t apologize, leaving me feeling disrespected.
His follow-up question about where I was coming from felt inappropriate and dismissive, and it made me uncomfortable. I couldn’t shake the feeling that there were racial undertones to his behavior.
It’s important for everyone to recognize that such treatment is unacceptable and can stem from underlying biases. I will not be returning to Tipi Coffee, as I believe everyone deserves to be treated with respect and dignity. I hope my experience encourages others to be mindful of how we treat one another, regardless...
