Simply the best Toby carvery 'Crook Log' in Bexley. I had my 60th birthday here with my family Christmas 2017, and a well presented meal and birthday treat was enjoyed by my folks - on behalf of the staff/ management at the time. Matt was the manager then, I personally thank him and all the staff - thoroughly enjoyed the meal and occasion. My wife and I have been here countless times before, this we earmark our favourite local carvery. The staff and management have served us well and always done us proud. I cannot fault this cheerful carvery located in an historical inn house. The roast pork, beef, and turkey is served by the chefs, the vegetables you help yourself. We found best times very fresh at noon and plenty on show. Drinks, sweets and any other extras on the menu are served by very delightful, cheerful and welcoming staff - including all cooks and waitors / waitresses. My wife and I revisited on 28/2/22, we enjoyed yet another 'mouth - watering' tasty roast dinner and sweet; coffee floaters, non - alcoholic drinks served here too! I applaud 👏 Lisa ( waitress who served us both so well ...10/10 to Lisa 👍..) , indeed all the staff so friendly and happy to please we have found in the past. Do remember though to record your car registration on the computer by the entrance inside the doorway of the Inn, the car park is owned by the restaurant !!!.....Access at the rear via the private but sizeable car park - can be busy due to local popularity. There is access for the disabled and a ground floor toilet too. Also a warm cosy but sizeable bar and seating areas. The Carvery very popular Christmas time bookings. Normal weekday (noon to 2pm) are popular with families and senior customers, but really almost any other time be it weekday or weekend. Clean, hygenic, cosy warm, and tidy throughout. Traditional old world architectural features both interior and exterior. They also serve a very hearty tasty breakfast in the mornings all week, I recommend if you have the time to spare. 👍 Well done Toby Carvery, keep up the very good hospitality and food 👍 A1 - 10/10. All the very best, Chris. A happy 😊 customer. In a recent visit on 25/11/ 24, some notable changes and improvised alterations in the decor and interior floor space dining, bar, and food self -...
Read moreMy first time to a Toby carvery last night. We were a party of 8 and had pre-booked at the Crook Log venue. Parking was easy and you have to enter your car registration into a screen as you walk into the restaurant to ensure you don’t get a ticket. We were greeted by a friendly staff member and given a buzzer which would notify us when our table was ready. We were seated approx. 10 minutes after our booked time which was no problem as we sat in the bar and had a drink before going through. Our waitress was amazing, (I wish I had taken her name), she patiently explained how it worked, was attentive without being over the top and made us all feel very comfortable and looked after. The food was good, hot enough and good choices. If there was a negative then I would say the gentlemen doing the meat carving seemed very grumpy. I asked for some lamb and beef and was given only a small amount of lamb. When I asked for some beef as well he told me that I hadn’t asked for it, which I had and I was heard to have asked by the people behind me in the queue. He then took some of the already small portion of lamb off the plate and put on a slice of beef, at the same time telling me that I should’ve been clearer. I am a size 10 female with a regular appetite and he made me feel like I was being greedy. I felt embarrassed as this was in front of other people in the queue who thankfully assured me they had heard me clearly. Other than the very small portion of meat, the potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and vegetables were delicious with lots of choice. A couple of other members of our party also noticed the grumpiness of the meat carvers, so I know it was not just me. Overall it was a very pleasant experience, a lovely roast dinner without any washing up was exactly what we needed on that day. We would definitely go again, mainly due to the excellent and friendly waitress and...
Read moreI have been to this place a few times and it pains me to say I will never go there again. This is primarily because of some poor, discourteous behavior from staff there on 30 August 2024 in the afternoon.
One particular member of staff, an older man, heavily tattooed arms, grey hair seemed to have a disdain for me and my multi racial group. Even though we were friendly, polite and well mannered. And we had money to spend.
We entered the place to have a great time, we warmly greeted the man and he said nothing back. The vibe was bad straight away. He then proceeded to select a table for us without asking for our preferences or even looking at us. He then palmed us off on a young pleasant lady to take us to a table.
You just know when somebody objects to your presence, disdain emanated from his body. He wasn't professional enough to hide his contempt for people whom has chosen to spend their money in his business.
Later, we noticed him being very chatty and all smiles with customers whom had the 'indigenous' look. The inference being that he could be professional and pleasant with people whom he considered to be kin.
The food servers in the canteen section were also very sullen. As they always are. My view of them is this, if you don't like the work, find alternative employment.
The waitresses were well mannered, professional and efficient, as always.
The food was good. It nearly always is.
Recommendations:
-If you have the indigenous look, you will most likely have a great time here as the staff will treat you well. I would recommend the place to you.
If you don't have that indigenous look, there is a risk that you will get some discourteous treatment here. I can't recommend it you,...
