We have been to the Tram Store previously, and it has a very nice feel to the place, plenty of hanging plants, with bare wood and copper accents. Inside, on every table was one person on a laptop, and as we were with a little one we ended up sitting on one of the outside tables, which also soon filled up with.... laptops and singular people. A trip to the tattoo studio next door resulted in two quick coffee's and two Welsh rarebits, the pictured coffee was beetroot and cacao, which had a rich earthy taste, and an Americano which was served in a paper takeaway cup ? Not sure why, as the beet one came in a glass tumbler. The rarebit was very good, with a nice thick, edge to edge layer of the mix on fresh sourdough, this was accompanied with a small dressed salad and fig chutney, very tangy, to compliment the cheese. Nice quick table service, the only thing I will say is that the inside seating area did feel like you were intruding into a quiet office area. The outside did eventually end up feeling the same just as we were leaving, maybe this is the usual mid week, mid day customer base that come in to work on their laptops. Great food, but the atmosphere was a...
Read moreA very mixed experience at Tram store. We loved the aesthetics of the place, however we felt that the food was a let down. I was surprised when I was served the huge big breakfast - all the bacon was burnt as you can see in the picture. It’s surprising how this was considered acceptable to leave the kitchen but it could just be an oversight. To their credit, when I did complain about the state of the bacon, they were happy to cook a fresh batch and the bacon was really good. The quality of ingredients could also be tasted in the portobello mushrooms. The poached eggs on both plates were far below par. All the eggs were almost hard boiled. You’d hope to have the egg yolk oozing so it can be mopped by the sourdough bread (which was okay). We understand that the quality of ingredients dictates the price but you’d hope it would be matched by the cooking standards and that was lacking in our experience. Finally, the service was lacking in energy. I know that it was slightly busy, but I guess part of the hospitality industry is to bring a positive atmosphere and engage with...
Read moreIt is a lovely space. I really like the idea of a cafe, selling eggs/milk/juice and also having space for gifts, little objects and things you might also want to buy.
But, in places, it’s style over substance:
They don’t do table service but don’t have numbers on the table. So you have to describe where you’re sitting and hope that the waiter doesn’t walk past you and leave your coffee with a surprised punter on a different table. 🤷♂️
When I ordered a breakfast I asked for crispy bacon. “Sure!”. Except it comes over as the opposite of crispy. Again no big deal but this place is not cheap so it leaves you just wondering whether they care or not. 🤔
Then you’re supposed to get a choice of orange juice or Virgin Mary with breakfast. I was told they only had orange that day. Again…no problem. Except the table next to me, who’ve ordered after me. all have Virgin Marys (and keep saying to each other how great they...
