Mixed reviews for Vagabond if I’m honest. As a concept, it’s a novelty and an interesting business model. Self serve wine or beer, and a good food menu, in a relaxed and intimate setting.
However, 12.5% mandatory service charge when you order everything yourself through an App, that’s a straight up fleece. Not to mention the wines do have a noticeable mark up and feels a bit pricey.
My time at Vagabond Shoreditch was also… odd.
The cheese board was fantastic, and plenty of cheese.
However the atmosphere was just straight up bizarre between the staff, with the chef on the cusp of ignoring me when I complimented and thanked him, and I actually received a sarcastic face and eye roll - cheers mate, hope your day improved, along with your customer service skills.
I also felt like asking for a couple of extra crackers with my abundance of cheese was like asking for shares in the company itself. Luckily Majestic Wines have actually bought those shares in a recent acquisition which is great, because Majestic Wines are known for their excellent customer service reputation.
The last thing you want on a raging hangover is to feel unwanted in a mid range chain.
But the wine was good, and so was the cheeseboard - despite my grievances about the atmosphere and the staff, I would go...
Read moreMy visit to this wine bar was truly delightful. I really didn't know what to expect. The anticipation of selecting and purchasing your own wines added an element of excitement to the experience. The extensive variety of wines available must have made the decision-making process enjoyable. The concept of choosing and paying for your selections adds a personalized touch that enhances the overall enjoyment.
The ambience of the wine bar, characterized by its appealing decor, contributed to the positive atmosphere. The friendly and helpful staff played a significant role in making your visit memorable, providing assistance, and creating a welcoming environment. Their contribution likely added to the overall satisfaction of your experience.
Additionally, the decision to complement the wines with a food order that turned out to be not just satisfactory but delicious further elevated your time at the wine bar. Not a big selection but enough. I would like to return and recommend the establishment to reflect the high level of satisfaction I derived from the visit. For me it's evident that the combination of diverse wine options, friendly staff, inviting decor, and tasty food has left a lasting positive impression, making it a place worth revisiting and sharing...
Read moreReally impressed by the wine here and staff were all really great. I think this place is really good for couples and small groups. I came as part of a larger group and it was alright but the bar shape isn't really ideal for bigger groups- the large tables are down a long thin corridor by the loos.
The wine was good (as you'd expect from a wine bar) -- they have cocktails but they're all canned. The only coffee they have on the menu is an espresso and we were served that in a tumbler rather than in an espresso cup.
There are some good alcohol free options for drinks but sadly no alcohol free wine, it would be great to see that on the offering as this venue is for social experiences, it would be nice to be included in drinking wine as someone that is on low/no alcohol.
The gents toilet was a bit of a mess, no stock of soap throughout the evening and there are broken locks with scrappy signs up for the temporary lock. In the ladies loo only one toilet had backup toilet roll.
We didn't order food but everything we saw looked great quality.
Overall very good but there are a few things stopping it from...
