Extremely disappointed with food taste after reading reviews. I specifically asked her that food is not sweet. She said no . When food was on table we were so excited but the moment we had our first bite we knew its not what we were expecting. Definitely not kerela food at all. Okra in gravy too & no curry leaves or any flavour. Basically chicken & okra curry were same just okra curry more sweet then chicken. We had calikut chicken. Then garlic parantha with no garlic flavour only onions. When we asked her she said its made for British people with no spices at all . So tasteless. If you looking kerela food Authentic this is definitely not the place. She offered to put spices In dish but it will still be not the same. Coconut chutney was the best & fresh. We were the only couple in restaurant may be that's the reason . Any how we are definitely not going back there. Really disappointed

Overall: ★★★★☆ Food: Kerala, South India What I liked: • Really lovely, sincere, attentive & friendly service • Nice starters • Fair price point • Good Friday night atmosphere What I didn’t like: • Masala Dosa - too small and not enough filling for the price point (£6.90) • The Bombay Aloo was undercooked. • Portions were all on the small side • Wines. Good price point but not very well thought out list. The least expensive, a French Merlot was awful. The only red by the glass is £9.50 and 250ml in the wrong size glass. Do I recommend going? YES Will I go again? YES Was it good value? So, so Price Point: $$

At Vijay Krishna, my wife and I were enveloped in a world where culinary artistry and tradition converge. The Onion Bhaji, crisp and infused with a melody of spices, set the stage for a memorable dining experience. The Chicken Samosa, a harmonious blend of succulent chicken encased in a delicate, flaky pastry, was a dance of flavors. Each Puri, golden and puffed to perfection, was a soft cloud of delight. Every bite at Vijay Krishna is a journey through the rich tapestry of authentic South Indian cuisine, a testament to the chef's unwavering commitment to excellence and innovation.

Vijaya Krishna in Tooting is a long-standing South Indian restaurant well-loved for its homely charm and authentic Keralan cuisine. Located on Mitcham Road, it’s a quieter, more intimate spot compared to some of the area’s busier, canteen-style curry houses.

Ambience & Features The restaurant offers a calm and comfortable setting, with simple décor, soft lighting, and touches of South Indian art.

Statues, gentle Indian background music, and friendly, efficient staff contribute to a welcoming atmosphere suited for family dinners or relaxed catch-ups.

The dining room is cozy but can get busy, so reservations are recommended at peak times.

Menu Highlights The menu focuses on classic South Indian specialties: popular dishes include lamb green masala, Kerala fish curry, and an impressive paratha.

You’ll find a range of vegetarian and vegan options, as well as regional snacks like cashew nut pakoda and Chicken 65.

Bread is mostly fried, such as puri and paratha (no naan or tandoor items).

Portions are generous, prices reasonable, and dishes are marked for spice levels.

Food & Experience Food is praised for its freshness and authentic flavors, with lightly spiced curries and succulent meats.

Regulars love the distinct South Indian flavors and rate dishes like lamb sag, dosas, and fish curry highly.

Service is generally polite and attentive, if sometimes a touch reserved.

The restaurant is fully licensed, offering Kingfisher and Cobra beer, plus wine.

Verdict Vijaya Krishna stands out for genuine Keralan cooking and a tranquil environment, making it a favorite among locals. While it may not be the flashiest spot in Tooting, its comforting food and welcoming staff keep diners coming back for more. Ideal for those seeking real South Indian cuisine in a...

Went there yday with my family a big party of 8 firstly we had to wait near on 20 minutes to access our table which we had previously booked. After that, the service was very below par as it took a long time for a waiter to even come and ask if we needed drinks for example, the wait was so long that we had to order everything drinks, starters, mains in one go. After we received the starters, there were many drinks that were missing, which needed to be asked for more than three times, including diet, Coke and water, and two of the starters just didn’t arrive. After that, we waited well over an hour and half for our mains to arrive by then we were quite frustrated so it didn’t help that there were items that were missing again, such as the potatoes which we were told that there was none left after the order and not before , which I found quite strange being a Saturday Night (the busiest) they should’ve been better prepared for the custom that they receive. Overall, we are very dissatisfied with our experience in this restaurant. Also an hour after we arrived There was a lot of other parties arriving which were extremely loud and boisterous, which put a downer on our evening. It is a shame because my family has been to this restaurant on a few different occasions but based on our experience yesterday evening they will not be returning ever again. My advice is if they are not ready for the amount of customers that will be arriving on the weekend they shouldn’t be open. We didn’t receive any apologies for our wait outside or for the food even though we had elderly people that needed to sit down, hence why we booked in advance. We also didn’t receive any complimentary food or drinks, which I think is a great shame. If I could give 0 I would...

Vijay Krishna: A Dining Disaster

I wish I could unexperience my order from Vijay Krishna, but unfortunately, it’s etched in my memory for all the wrong reasons. Calling what they serve "food" is an insult to the concept of nourishment. From the moment I opened it, I was greeted by an overwhelming stench that made me question if the kitchen had seen a health inspection in this decade.

The food, if you can call it that, was a pathetic excuse for a meal. Everything tasted like it was prepared days ago and reheated, then reheated again, but never truly cooked. The dishes were bland, with no flavor or freshness to speak of. The "signature" dish was nothing but a sloppy mess that I wouldn't feed to an animal, let alone a human being. It felt like they were actively trying to ruin the most basic ingredients.

Curdled and yogurt thats off? Seriously for a restaurant that charges this? THIS IS NOT FOOD, forget about it being Indian food its a long long long way from that.

I wouldn’t recommend Vijay Krishna to my worst enemy. Pathetic, disappointing, and absolutely unworthy of anyone who values their taste buds—or their health. Avoid...
