It looks like it should be a $h@!? show, but surprisingly its a testament to humanity. Cool headed employees whisk too and fro, attentive but swift and in control of their abilities. The public forms queues encircling the bar 2, no 3 people deep, but orders are fast and an exchange of faces is constant. The only arguments to be heard are over an instance that the other person was first. I’m not sure a place like this needs a review since they don’t seem to lack in popularity as humans overflow to the street. You can find it beside the upper river Thames, but that is not always accurate because at certain points of the day the pub is “in” the river Thames. Don’t lose track of time or you could find yourself stuck at high tide. Not to worry though because the view is the best and the food is always familiar and yet creative. If I had foresight I’d plan to be stuck at White Cross.

I’ve been avoiding writing this review as I really don’t like to write negative reviews, but overall the White Cross was really disappointing. To be fair we did go on a busy Saturday and some of the problems were outside the control of the team. Starting with the service, I’d booked so I made sure they knew we were there when arrived (you have to leave a credit card and face a 30 quid no show penalty to book - which is kinda ok). After checking out names we were told to sit anywhere that was free. We did and were given menus by another staff member before someone one came by and told us off for sitting in the wrong seats. The rest of the service was friendly but slow with us having to remind staff to bring drinks we’d ordered etc. Food wise: my bangers and mash were great with Cumberland sausages and homemade onion rings, the pasta dish was small and kinda bland, and the the Caesar salad small and with really chewy inedible chicken. There wasn’t a quality check so by the time the staff came we’d eaten what we could (I was happy the others not). Atmosphere - we sat upstairs in the restaurant and it was the longest restaurant I’ve ever been in in my life. In no way was this the fault of the staff (who I’m sure where struggling to hear too). There was one large table shouting at across to each other and one table near us shouting over the large table. The large loud table left as we decided that we were still very hungry and would have desserts (happy that we could talk and no longer have to lip read). And then another loudish table took their place - we gave up on deserts. Maybe we were just unlucky based on the other reviews. Overall the White Cross on a Saturday was easily the worst dining experience we’ve each had for a very long time. Was it all the fault of the establishment and staff (and personally I liked my food)? No, the noisy and slightly drunk shouting customers made it extra unpleasant. Generally the food and service were below par so I can’t recommend it from any angle and would seriously avoid eating there on a Saturday.

Overpriced paid 53£ for 1 starter, 1 sandwich, side chips, 1 main and 3 drinks (1 sparkling water, 1 half pint of guiness, 1 apple juice). Wasn't given a receipt, was left with glasses and bottles at the till and no help to bring to the table outside. Also a main included gravy and onion rings which I only noticed when leaving, that I didn't receive these on the table. Never again. Average food, poor table service and very overpriced. Good location and beautiful views though To your answer: I had staff helping me with drinks before, using a tray, when these are for a meal - with glasses, bottles and pints. Currently, Nov. 2023 - your official website and your official Google menu - mention : Mains - "Cumberland sausage and mash onion rings, gravy (1242 Kcal) £16.00 " - onion rings and gravy never arrived to the table Overpriced still, better options in the area Thank you

Came here for a Mother's Day lunch with mum and dad. I've lunched here before for a work Christmas lunch and enjoyed the results of their kitchen, but never tried their Sunday Roast so was looking forward to this. I had the roast sirloin; the oldies had the pork loin. My meal was great (I also had their herring pate as starter, though this was a tad too salty for my palate) but my parent's didn't really enjoy their pork, which they found to be too tough for their tastes. The roast potatoes was also disappointing for them; they were too tough outside and undercooked inside. I suspect this was a consequence of batch-variation as mine were great. Service was excellent; we didn't make a booking and were able to get a walk-in within their dining room within 5 minutes and throughout our meal, the friendly staff checked on us frequently to make sure we were happy.

A very nice pub with a great outdoor area but unfortunately the food we had was a big letdown. We had the roast beef and when it was delivered to our table I was wow that looks amazing and to be honest the beef was nice as we're the roast potatoes and the carrot but apart from the potatoes everything was very luke warm almost cold and the cabbage was inedible as it was so chewy.the main thing we all found the worst was the lack of gravy and we asked for more and when it didn't arrive we asked again for more and were told there still making it..by the time it arrived the meal was stone cold and it just spoiled it for us all..we did complain about it but they weren't bothered..the drink was nice tho and I would go back but I'd not eat there again

What a lovely place right on the river bank. Walk from Richmond station to Whitecross pub was very pleasant. High Street full of many modern shops while off the main Street there are interesting little boutique type shops. There are plenty of eating and coffee pkaces. Walkto Whitecross from station is around 10 to 15 mins depending on the route you walk. The pub/restaurant is beautiful my situated where you can have leisurely drinks or food inside or outside. Menu caters for variety of tastes. Whitecross pub has old English looks and staff are very friendly and helpful. You can also have lovely walk along the river after the gastronomical delights and drinks at the pub. All in all we had a very pleasant time at Whitecross.
