Firstly I LOVE The Pancake House but was a little disappointed by our last visit. As it's based in Centre Parcs they have a "baby Station" where you have access to baby food and microwave (all free) so you don't have to pack you bag full of food for baby when you leave your lodge. This time around when we visited I asked how I would gain access to the baby food as I couldn't see any and didnt want to start rummaging through their cupboards. The waitress said that they were out of baby food and had been all weekend and wouldn't have any until Thursday (it was Mon at time) now I was panicking because I hadn't bought any food with me for baby. So I asked politely if there was any other options that they had in place. She just said no and carried on with what she was doing. Once back at the table I asked our waitress if she could ask the chef if they could make some scrambled eggs as they make omelettes and pancakes they wouldn't be short on eggs. She asked the chef and he said no. I asked why and she said I dont know and walked off. Then another server came over and said that I could go to baby station. . . . When I explained the situation she was a little shocked but couldn't do anything to help. Baby wouldn't eat what we were eating and I ended up ordering a cup of milk for her. It was like nobody knew what was going on. Never had experience like that before. So it was a shame this time round. The food we had was amazing as usual - though I still dont know why they've stopped serving guacamole with the salsa and sour cream on the Mexican pancake. It was amazing with all three. Portions seem to be...
Read moreThis is our fifth time in center parcs but unfortunately the pancake house didn’t live up to our memories.
Work was being done so meant constant drilling and big green screens blocking off the impressive views.
Prices are unreal. £3.50 for a cup of tea and not only this, they serve it to you as a pot of hot water with a tea bag on the side still in its paper - they can’t even be bothered to brew the tea for you.
Pancakes are very dry and crumbly. They cover it in sauces and ice cream etc but once you get past this initial layer, the pancakes are nothing special - I can make much better ones at home. I mentioned to our waitress that my 5 year old son was struggling as his pancake was so dry so she brought out an additional bit of sauce for him. When I asked for the bill, saw this little bit of sauce was charged as an added extra!
So 4 pancakes for 2 adults and 2 kids plus drinks were a total of £65. You don’t mind paying if the quality is there but it really wasn’t. Worst eating out experience of our whole trip this time and has gone downhill since our last trips, not even serving the range of toppings and milkshakes as per the past. Sense of portion control, profitability markups and conveyor belt mentality with its customers. All about maximising profit margins, to the extent of killing any kind of memorable service or product. Greed has taken over.
We are due back tomorrow morning before we leave as you have to book all this stuff at the beginning of your trip. Safe to say, we won’t be returning. It’s a shame because a few years ago,...
Read moreHaving never had pancakes before we'd thought we give the kids a treat while at Center Parcs. It was lunchtime when we arrived and so we expected a wait, however we got seated really quickly.
It took the waitress about 10 minutes to get our drinks order - but she didn't want to take the food order until we had our drinks which was a bit annoying as we were ready to order. The drinks took about 20 minutes to arrive - but to be fair it was busy.
The restaurant started to empty as we waited for our food - the food once it arrived was tasty and enjoyable.
By the time we had finished our main course there were only about 4 families left in the restaurant. However our waitress decided to hold a conversation for a full 15 minutes with someone else while we were waiting to order dessert... I caught her eye a few times but she carried on taking.
Overall the food was ok.. but feels like it's about 25% overpriced. Bear in mind it's just pancakes so nothing to get too excited about. The service however was a real negative. It was slow, even slower once the restaurant quietened down. The person bringing our food and drinks was really grumpy and could even crack a smile. We had to ask twice for cutlery and one of the plates provided had the remains of someone else's food on.
Sadly the bad service means I feel no desire to visit again, once you've had pancakes for dinner the novelty wears off! Suggest the pancake House invests in a bit of customer training - it makes a big difference and wins...
