When we first arrived at The Gurkha Kitchen, located in Maidstone West train station car park, our expectations were modest given its location and understated exterior. The quiet interior didn’t promise much at first, but as the evening unfolded, the experience proved to be far better than it seemed at first glance. Initially, the restaurant felt a little subdued, but as more diners arrived, the atmosphere transformed. Soft ambient music combined with the hum of conversations, creating a warm and relaxed vibe that felt worlds away from the quiet start. The food was well-presented and packed with flavour, making it a great spot for a curry night. While a couple of chicken pieces had a slightly unusual texture, it didn’t detract from the overall meal. The staff were the real highlight—attentive, polite, and knowledgeable. They even helped us choose a third dish to share, which, while not quite to our taste, was exactly as described. The Gurkha Kitchen is proof that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. With its inviting atmosphere, excellent service, and enjoyable food, it delivered a surprisingly pleasant evening. Rating: 4.3 out of 6 Six Poppadoms Please #6PP

What a good meal! And in the most unlikely of locations situated next to the Maidstone West station. Several things impressed me about The Ghurka Kitchen Nepalese/Indian restaurant in Maidstone. The onion bhajis were some of the best I’ve ever had. Someone in my party described them as “spectacular”. They were crispy on the outside but still had the substance and moisture of the onion on the inside. We think they had an extra kick of chilli. Everything worked. And then on to the main. Rice (egg fried and mushroom), chicken madras, chicken bhuna and chicken pasanda (which was not on the menu but made specially because one of our party really likes it) . I had the madras which was nicely hot, with a building heat, but which was also flavoursome. I had a little taste of the other dishes and they were simply delicious. The staff in the restaurant were very friendly and the food was served at an ideal pace, leaving just the right amount of time between courses. Looking for a good Nepalese/Indian meal in Maidstone? Consider the Gurkha Kitchen.

The food here is absolutely wonderful. The flavors are rich and abundant. Each dish is very different and most satisfying if you are into cuisine that comes from these very special places in the world (if you like Indian cuisine, this should do you right) . One of the awesome dishes, was the lamb Gurkhali, which is a Nepalese curry that is very rich and deep flavored. A great side dish to the curry is the Sag Aloo which is a spinach potato curry (different flavor profile from the Gurkhali curry) . Both of these must be enjoyed with plain Basmati rice so that you can taste the flavor profiles of the aforementioned dishes. A flavored rice may be good to add but one should try it first with plain Basmati (in this reviewer's opinion) . In any case, great Nepalese restaurant with pleasant and comfortable atmosphere. Note: the accompanying photo does the actual food no justice. This reviewer was seriously too caught up in the consuming! Sorry about that. Cheers!

The quality of the food is great. Had many sit downs and takeaways. Given them 5 stars before. But for the last 2 takeaways, actually deliveries, they’ve left items out. The first time I phoned and was told I could get free replacements next time. So we ordered food for 4 on Christmas Eve and explained about the free replacements. Was told the missing food was on the system so replacements ok. But when delivered (late as usual but no problem) the same items were missing. Phoned and was told they could send them over in 15 minutes. I phoned again to confirm the address and was told the items were being put in the car as we spoke. So we started our food. 45 minutes later, nothing. Phoned again and was told they’d send them over. Explained we’d had our food, what was the point we’d eaten the rest, what were they going to do? He again said he’d send them over. ??? I asked again, expecting another offer of replacements next time which would have been fine. But he then said “I’m finishing this call” and hung up. Not exactly good customer service. Twice I’ve paid for something I’ve not received. So one star for the Gurkha Kitchen for awful...
