Phenomenal! Lured to the place by great reviews I can say everything I've read on Google about it was true or even better.
I called to make a booking and phone was answered by nonchalant Italian guy talking in a mix of Italian and English, felt great vibes from him immediately.
Upon arriving to the restaurant, we were quickly presented with a choice of available tables and served water immediately once sat down. All waiters were very attentive, frequently checking on us and joking a lot. Table next to us was celebrating a birthday and tiramisu was brought to them by 4 staff members, who non-verbally communicated to everyone around what's going on. Quickly all guests around joined in to sing Happy Birthday song, you could tell everyone felt at ease and was vibing together with the staff.
Now, food. AMAZING! Everything we ordered was delicious, but if I had to suggest what items you must get these would be:
Salted noughnuts - the biggest revelation of the night, crunchy on the outside with a melting dough inside topped on a bed of insanely aromatic marinara sauce. It's one of the cheapest starters on the menu and our entire party agreed it was the best thing we ordered.
Arancini - full of flavour, fresh and crunchy. I would suggest to skip the spicy mayo and just let it dissolve in your mouth, you won't regret it.
Superma - deep-fired pizza dough topped with cinnamon sugar and ice cream. As good as it sounds. I normally never order desserts, but it will be a must-have for all of my future visits.
Pizzas, pastas and meat were great as well. £29 bottle of wine was one of the best whites I've had, coulnd't have enough of it.
It was the best service I've experience anywhere. It was the best Italian food I've had (mind that I hadn't been to Italy). At the same time it was very reasonibly priced, significantly cheaper than Italian places in Northern Quarter/Ancoats, yet with even...
Read moreWe were really excited to visit Cibus for a Sunday roast based on its award winning status. I don’t often write a review, however, we were totally disappointed and underwhelmed with our experience at Cibus. Firstly, I ordered a glass of wine to be told they had none of this left. I asked for an alternative, however, it would have been good service to have been offered this at the same price of the original. We then went to order our mains to be told there was no lamb available (I know this can happen but a little disappointing from the best restaurant in the north west). The main itself was lovely and, had everything else about our experience been good, our rating would’ve been higher. We then wanted to order a dessert (even after hearing from the table next to us that three options were unavailable) and waited 15 mins for someone to bring a menu (we also didn’t have a drink at this point). The waiter (who we believe may have been the manager) failed to tell us about which desserts were no longer available. We waited another 10 mins and by this point we had decided we didn’t want to order. We asked for the bill instead and asked the waiter to remove the service charge (which is not something we normally do). He was apologetic and kindly took the wine off the bill, however did try to make several excuses about the restaurant being busy (there were only a handful of tables in). We also overheard another table being told they had no carrot mash left and would they like an alternative. I don’t like to write negative reviews, however, visiting somewhere like The Sparrows who have also won the same award is a very different experience. I hope Cibus up their game to be in anywhere near the same league as other restaurants nominated. We won’t sadly...
Read moreWhat a little gem this place is! I have been twice in the space of a week and I am kicking myself for not having been more often. Let me start with the space...From outside you cannot tell how elegant and cosy it is inside. The outside terrace is like a little oasis, making you forget instantly you are so close to the A6 in Levenshulme. With the decor and ambience you can almost pretend you are abroad. They really did a wonderful job with the space. Then there's the owners and the staff. They all welcome you like family and make sure you feel extra special. The wine recommendation from Pablo was just excellent. And to me, that treatment right there, is what keeps people coming back. The combination of the amazing front of house staff and the superb food is just the perfect formula in my view. Now onto the food...my god, these guys can cook! The cicchetti plates are just so good, fresh and delicious! My favourite is the arancini and the bruschetta...we fight over those :). The ragu pasta and the canelloni were firm family favourites too. Delicious! And my son loved his pizza, in fact he said it was the best he's ever had. And he should know, he loves a good pizza and has tried most places in and around Manchester. So big endorsement there. This place is perfect for a family meal or a romantic dinner, so no matter the occasion, go give it a try, you won't regret it. Price -wise I'd say it is not on the cheap side but it is not on the expensive bracket either...I'd say it is reasonable given the quality and genuine Italian drinks and produce you can get. I'm also in love with their soft drink glasses...if they were to sell them, I'd...
