We went for Valentine's Afternoon Tea here (not for Valentine's itself per se but just because it coincided) and after a slight struggle to find it after getting off at the last stop on the bus from the centre of Manchester, we arrived a few minutes late. However, we were immediately given a warm welcome and were even able to change a couple of things on our order at no extra cost and obviously at short notice.
What followed were some of the best sandwiches and baked goods we've ever had in our lives and I've certainly had quite a few in my time! My wife had the salted beef with gherkins and mustard and I had the chicken red pesto with pine nuts, followed by the lightest scones I've ever tasted with the obligatory jam and clotted cream. After that came the Oreo pastry cherry and chocolate tart (which we shared) and one utterly divine and moist salted caramel brownie each. What we couldn't eat we were able to take back to the hotel with us in a box.
My wife was particularly impressed by the real tea she had and remarked about how cute the teapot it came in was. I had a hot chocolate, which was a great accompaniment to the rest of the meal; the only very slight downside was that it was in a glass without a handle, so it was too hot to drink for a while.
The décor harked back to an earlier time (obviously inspired by 50s and 60s cook books) and there were even baking trays on the wall! The music being played was eclectic and unobtrusive, so it subtly added to the atmosphere in there.
Everyone remotely interested in either afternoon teas or cakes should pay this café a visit on their travels in Manchester. We just wish we had something like it in...
Read moreThis is a great place for any occasion involving cake! I have been on a few occasions for a drink and a cake and always been eyeing up the afternoon tea jealously! Fortunately it was my mums birthday so had the excuse to buy her an afternoon tea voucher! Winner! So I booked us in on a Saturday. They are very busy so you do have to call a few times to get through but it's worth it. With the afternoon tea you get a choice of sandwich, a little savoury pastry, a chocolate dipped strawberry and any two pieces of cake from the selection. Of course you get tea or any drink. We went for earl grey, obviously! We couldn't eat all of that cake as we were stuffed so we took the rest home in a box for later! The brownies here are amazing, as is the Manchester tart! Delicious! There are tables outside too which is nice. It's always busy here and quite small so be sure to arrive early if coming from afar. Alternatively you could just turn up and have a browse of West Didsbury until a seat...
Read moreInstead of going for the traditional wedding cake we picked Dish & Spoon to do a 'dessert table' for our wedding - a decision we couldn't have been happier with! We picked a fantastic array of brownies and traybakes. Dish & Spoon cut them into bite sized pieces so guests could have several different ones if they wished. Not only did they taste amazing but Dish & Spoon also styled it all to fit in with the decor of our wedding. We got so many compliments from our guests who thought it was such a lovely touch. Marie was really easy to communicate with and so helpful with making sure we got the right compliment of cakes. I would highly recommend Dish & Spoon to anyone having a wedding and wanting some extra...
