As a Japanese person, I've got to say this is a type of restaurant Japanese people avoid as its dishes are different from what we have in Japan, to be honest. So, I would like its customers to recognise foods they have there are 'Japanese-inspired foods'. For example, we rarely fry Chinese dumplings. Furthermore, we hardly ever dip it into ponzu-soy sources because that prevents us from tasting the ingredients. And, yakisoba, for another example, shouldn't be made of Chinese egg noodles because it doesn't have a chewy core we enjoy. So, each food has a different hidden sense we enjoy but the foods of the restaurant unknowingly ignore them. Oh, and the chopsticks they have are not Japanese fine-tipped ones which are easier to use than the rounded ones they have. Pub menus should be alright to be fair.

My husband and I were out for cooked breakfast after a night out the previous evening. After trying Thyme Out which was too busy as usual we tried the George Charles, and I'm glad we did. We were able to get a seat straight away and the service was fast. I had a vegetarian breakfast and a bloody Mary and my husband had a full English. We both also got bottomless filter coffee which I thought was a great idea. The food and drinks arrived promptly and the food was very nice. I am just marking it down one star however, as none of the food was very hot, especially the poached eggs. It was fine to eat, but it would have been 5 stars if it had just been warmer! I would definitely go back again.

Wow For burger-Holics this is your pit stop!! Check out the Plucky Bird Burger in my photos. Taste wise this is incredible We also ordered fish n chips, salmon teriyaki & the chefs 8 piece nigiri ( sushi platter). Considering it was almost a full house the service was very efficient, friendly and super fast. We had a table booked at 6.30 and had full view of the screen to watch the football (Euro football). Burton Road has such a lovely vibe and this place has a great atmosphere I can honestly recommend for great sushi and great British classics

I hate to leave a negative review for anywhere but recently had a really disappointing experience here.

Visited for Mother’s Day with my family and partner who is a Celiac. A member of staff told us explicitly that all the soy sauce was gluten free- therefore my partner starting eating it. Another member of staff then came over and told us the sauce was not gluten free, however he had already eaten it. There was no apology at any point, and the original staff member who said he could eat it then avoided us.

We have worked in hospitality before and just found the treatment and approach to the allergy by staff extremely bizarre and disappointing. No one appeared to understand the seriousness of the allergy or the fact he had now consumed a significant amount of gluten and would be severely unwell for the next few days.

The staff appeared to not be trained on intolerances/allergies as the initial staff member he asked for the allergen menu from didn’t know what celiac disease was.

Overall was so disappointing to not even be offered an apology! It’s a shame as the food/drinks were nice, but our experience was completely ruined by untrained and quite frankly...

The roast that I was unlucky enough to order was potentially the saddest dining experience of my life. The 'veggie bake' was not a bake, but rather a quorn-type medallion that had somehow had all of the moisture extracted - as it crumbled into a substance not dissimilar to vermiculite in my mouth, I watched as its tastelessness began to suck all of the colour from the world around me. In a futile attempt at salvaging any hope of a happy future, I spat it out into a tissue.

I decided to try and spice things up with some caramelized red cabbage - the smell assaulted my nostrils as the fork brought what can only be described as red-cabbage infused vinegar toward my mouth. I'd like to thank the factory that put said red cabbage in a jar for that experience, and to George Charles for charging me 13.95 for the pleasure.

The roast potatoes were sad.

My friend wasn't allowed to get his roast potatoes swapped for chips - apparently the kitchen are 'weird about swapping things', presumably because the meals were salvaged from a meals on wheels warehouse which went into liquidation in...

Having heard so many great reviews recently my wife and I decided to visit the George Charles (Pan-Asian) restaurant in Didsbury …. and we were certainly not disappointed.

Upon arrival you are immediately made to feel very welcome by the team and there is a really lovely atmosphere – The Manager, Andy, went “above and beyond” our expectations to ensure that we were really well looked after and nothing was too much trouble.

The menu is very interesting and also includes an exciting selection of Pan-Asian street food dishes which we were keen to explore. We decided to share two starter dishes, a Chicken Gyoza which was light, crispy and cooked perfectly and we also enjoyed a selection of Sushi which was extremely fresh and beautifully presented on the plate.

To follow we had a Salmon Teriyaki and a Prawn Katsu which were absolutely delicious and then to finish we indulged ourselves in a Unagi Affogato which was an absolute “must”, particularly with the Plum Sake!

If you want to enjoy a perfect night out where top quality cuisine goes hand-in-hand with impeccable service, then this is the...
