My family and I had an extremely disappointing experience at Sugar Junction today. We are on a trip from overseas and one of our most anticipated things to do in Manchester was to visit Sugar Junction. We were 8 in total so we wanted to reach out early just to see if that would be okay. First I tried calling several times. Their Google page lists a phone number that doesnât pick up (as well as a link to a website with info about bookings thatâs not valid anymore). I let them know about this and asked if our plans to show up (knowing they only do walk-ins) as a group of 8 was okay in an email weeks ago, which is the contact method mentioned on their website, but it wasnât responded to. Because of this we decided to stop by the day before to see how busy it was and ask a staff member if it was okay weâd visit the day after. He told us it might be difficult to get a table if it would be busy but we could try. We absolutely did not expect to be seated immediately and were of course willing to wait for a table should that be needed. Today we showed up and were greeted by another member of staff who didnât seem too happy about our visit and we felt very unwelcome. A table for all 8 of us was understandably not available immediately so she offered us to sit seperately as that was the only option and we gladly accepted that. She then excused herself and when she came back we were told that the baker wasnât in for the whole day (which Iâm sure we could have been informed about when we stopped by the day before) and they had no cakes and therefor couldnât accommodate us, despite the seats we were offered still being free. Other customers were there enjoying drinks and other food items. We were absolutely shocked by suddenly being turned away when we already had been offered free tables and we werenât even given the chance to choose other items from the menu than what we originally came for. When you send them an email you get an automated response that reads âfeel free to come by and see us as normal and we will try our upmost to accommodateâ. Unfortunately this was not our experience as we were being turned away instead of them wanting 8 customers they...

Read moreWe visited this place today. We had to wait for a table but its to be expected on a Saturday afternoon. We all opted for afternoon tea priced at £22.95 per person. Which I thought was a quite steep so expected an excellent lunch. Firstly the coffee was lovely but we waited far too long for our food to arrive but we thought oh well it must be amazing. It consisted of 2 slices of toasted bread, I think it was sourdough. 1 had salmon and rocket on and the other was avocado and feta. The toppings were very tasty but the bread was a let down, the crust was so sharp it dug into my gum. I was looking forward to traditional sandwiches which you normally get at afternoon tea and not a tiny slice of hard toasted bread. We were still wanting more savoury. For the sweet treats there was a plain scone which unfortunately crumbled when my son tried to spread the cream on so we opted to take ours home. There was a brownie each which was nice and a slice of apple cake which was ok. Nothing really wowed. There was a glass which looked like a cheesecake inside but it turned out to be crushed biscuit with yogurt and jam on the top. My daughter opted to leave that after we told her what it was. I'm afraid for that price we expected a better selection idealy maybe 1 less sweet and drop the glass of yogurt and replace with a savoury.
Reply to owner... I'm sorry you feel this is a bad review as we thought we were very fair. Some of your 1 stars are a lot worse. We have listed the good and the bad to give customers our truly honest opinion. We didn't think anything would change if we told you we were disappointed with the "sandwiches" as obviously that is what you serve there and we wouldn't have wanted more. We actually never did say everything was ok to anyone as we wasn't asked. We took the scones and apple cake to feed the ducks...
